This article will give you a step-by-step guide to making polymer clay image pendants.

Polymer clay pendants are very popular right now, and you can sell these charms for decent money as well. There are many different polymer clay pendants you can make, and if you have liquid polymer clay you can make any image you can print out into a pendant or charm. This article will give you a step-by-step guide to making polymer clay image pendants.

To start this project you will need a few items. Polymer clay, a flat surface, a knife, and something to roll out clay with are important.  You can use a pasta machine if you have one, but do not use it for pasta without thoroughly cleaning it afterwards. Liquid polymer clay, a jump ring,  a baking sheet, a paintbrush, and an image are the final ingredients for this project. You can use an image that is cut from a magazine, or you can use an image that is printed out from the computer.

Start this project by rolling a piece of clay flat; it should be about an eighth of an inch thick. Now center your image in this piece and cut a square slightly bigger than the image. You may want to sprinkle baby powder under the clay before you roll it out; this will stop it from sticking. Cut out strips of clay as well, and we will use them later to frame the picture.

Using your paintbrush coat the top of the square of clay with liquid polymer clay in an even coat. Lightly press the image onto the clay. Create a hole using a needle, stick, or pen in the top part of the pendant so you can add a jump ring later. Bake this square for about 10 minutes on low in your oven.

After the image has cooled add the strips of clay to the border of the picture. It should overlap the image in order to seal it. You can add a little liquid polymer to make the frame stick well. Now coat the picture with liquid polymer, and bake in the oven again for about 10 minutes on low.

Remove your pendant and allow it to cool. When it is not hot to the touch you can attach a jump ring. To do this just stretch the jump ring using pliers and push it through the hole in your pendant. Close the ring and your pendant is complete. For added durability you can spray the pendant with a sealer before you attach the ring.

Making polymer clay image pendants is fun because you can completely customize them. These instructions will teach you how to make your own!

Hi Sarah, This is a great project for people who are trying their hand at polymer clay for the first time. I just have 1 small correction, if you are printing from an inkjet computer you need to print on t-shirt transfer paper. Inkjet printer ink will not transfer to polymer clay. The best transfer will occur when you have a color copy made with toner ink. These are available through office supply stores for as little as a dollar per sheet. You can also have a black and white copy made and color it with colored pencils, the pencil will transfer as well.
