Need a gift for a young married couple? Here are five suggestions for gift cards or certificates for married couples.

I have often said that everyone deserve another wedding shower every ten years.  Appliances break, sheets and towels wear out, dishes and glassware break and children come along.  Married couples often put off replacing household items that wear out, and when children arrive, entertaining them becomes an expensive part of their budget.  Here are five suggestions for gift cards or certificates for married couples.

Bed Bath and Beyond:  BB&B’s motto is “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.”  Well, I’ve discovered that is not always true, but close enough. BB&B carries small appliances, dishes, pots and pans, silverware, curtains, sheets and towels, kitchenware, and even has a “good china” department.  And best of all, once you’re on their mailing list, you will regularly receive 20%-off-one-item coupons which they accept regardless of the expiration date.  A gift card to a Bed Bath and Beyond (and perhaps a dozen or so of those BB&B coupons you are hoarding in your glove compartment) would be a Godsend for a couple who need to replenish and/or replace many of the necessities of a home.

Walmart:  Walmarts are everywhere, and undoubtedly have the lowest prices.  For that couple who prefer a bigger bang for their buck, a gift card to Walmart will enable them to buy twice as many towels and/or sheets than at a regular department store, and their prices on their selections of small appliances that regularly wear out like microwaves, toasters, coffeemakers, and hand mixers cannot be beat.  A gift card to Walmart will give your married friends the means to replace the causalities of married life.

Any electronics or office supply store:  A gift card to a local electronics store or office supply store is always appreciated, given our dependence on technology these days.

A gift certificate to a museum or zoo:  A gift certificate to a local museum or zoo will enable a married couple to spend a day with the family, host a birthday party or other event for their children’s sports team or boy or girl scout troop.  They can also be used to purchase a membership to a museum or zoo if they choose, and most museums or zoos have a reciprocal program enabling holders to use that membership at zoos or museums in other cities.  Check with your local museum or zoo for the benefits.

Any nice restaurant:  A romantic night out is often something married couples with children seldom get.  A gift card or certificate to a fancy restaurant will give them a reason and the means to escape for an evening of candlelight and romance.  (An envelope with enough cash to pay the babysitter is also a welcome bonus.)

Merry Christmas gift card shopping!
