How to get ice off car windows after a major ice storm
I'm a California girl living in Kentucky for the last almost three years. To say that I've never experienced inclement weather before, is an understatement.
The first year I was here the state was in a draught. I thought, "Hey, this weather is just like in California." Last year, a heavy snow fell. It was beautiful. I got out and romped in it with my dogs. This year we had the worst ice storm in recorded history. So much for global warming. I was without power for a week. It was 30 degrees in my house. The first day I decided I'm outta here and headed for the local coffee shop which did have power. When I stepped outside, I discovered my car was encased in ice. It looked like a giant red ice cube. I thought, "I know how to fix this. It's the old credit card trick." Didn't work and neither did the ice scraper. Through trial and error, I solved the problem.
I'm a problem solver by nature. I'm a trial and error, do it yourselfer, I don't need your help kind of gal. So I went into the laundry room looking for something to solve this problem. I found it! A gallon of windshield cleaner.
I took it outside and poured it on the windshield, and the ice started to melt like the Wicked Witch of the West. I took the ice scraper and helped it along. I did this with all of the windows.
The top of my car had six inches of solid ice on it. Yes, that's right, six inches. I measured it. My mother said the roof of my car was going to cave in. I didn't really believe that, but I thought I'd better get it off anyway.
So I poured the rest of the windshield cleaner on the roof, and as it was melting, I used a squeegee to push the ice off the roof.
This is a great way to remove ice and clean your windows at the same time.
