A football club is inspired by the kind of silver wares it has won in the past, its cherished by the history they have accumulated in various competitions it has partaken and supported by its loyal fans in good and bad times. When Arsenal relocated to the Emirates, their current stadium, they carried everything that was dearly attached to them. The major ones being the silver wares they had won and of course their fans.

Unfortunately there was one important thing they couldn’t bring along however much they wanted to. It’s the ‘history’ of some of the most memorable and hard fought games they had won at Highbury, their old stadium. A number of of those victories being made on their greatest archrivals, Tottenham Hot Spurs. The impressive win the Gunners made against the Spurs, last weekend, will defiantly be embossed on the Emirates walls as part of the stadium history. To their slight disadvantage, the day they will part ways with their main sponsor, Emirates Airlines, they will have to change the name of their stadium.

The Spur’s loss was their second consecutive loss and it’s starting to dent the remarkable form they were in at the start of the season. Any manager with prospects of winning the title knows quite well that two consecutive losses means that they are losing grip. Spurs will get some solace in that Man City and Aston Villa both dropped points when they drew with Birmingham and Everton respectively.

Liverpool is a team that currently doesn’t have a serious winning grip. The faces of their fans are finding it difficult to remain constant; they keep on changing from joy to gloominess. Am yet to meet any gambler who is willing to bet that they can win the EPL.  If Liverpool’s performance doesn’t improve, the UEFA Champions league is the only thing that will save Benitez from being relieved his duties. Assuming that they will progress even though they are in very tight corner. Liverpool’s triumph in the Champions league has earned it the title of being called one of the big four.

Although Man Utd, in their game kept Blackburn very much at their cross hairs, the latter proved difficult to infiltrate. Well-executed goals from Berbatov and Rooney eventually secured the red devils maximum the points.

It was a case of the same script but slightly different cast at the Reebok stadium, when Chelsea won against Bolton by four goals. The Blues had won by the same margin in their mid week carling cup encounter. In their last three games they have scored 13 goals and conceded none making their scoring grip quite remarkable. If a team has defenders and midfielders who are constantly on the scoring sheet this increases the probability of a Chelsea’s game not ending goal less.

The big clash this weekend will be between Man Utd and Chelsea. Ferguson will lead his troops knowing that anything less than a win will prevent his team from reclaiming the lead at the standing table. It’s a tough assignment for United who don’t have a good record at Stamford Bridge. If Rio Ferdinand plays he will he will answer his critics who have been on his neck due to some mistakes he has been making.
