Demolish School Uniform?

Numerous school children want to come casual to school, therefore should schools bring an end to their uniforms?

No, is the answer to this, although many pupils may disagree. There are a number of reasons for this conclusion, which many students do not take into account.

Firstly, the cost of school uniforms is becoming less and less, with places such as John Lewis supplying all school uniforms at great bargains. Designer clothes, however, are much more pricy and have a shorter life than school uniforms. Also, school uniforms can be passed on to siblings whilst casual clothes cannot, as the fashion changes all the time.

In addition to this, wearing a school uniform helps to build the school spirit and makes you feel like you are part of a society. Some people state this suppresses individuality, but it actually forces people to judge others by inside feelings, not their fashion and clothing.

Parents and onlookers see children dressed in school uniforms to look smarter and more appropriate when coming to school. This also reduces distractions to pupils, and helps maintain school discipline. However, some people complain that bright pupils are terrible dressers; hence clothing does not make a difference to education.

Finally, school uniforms decrease fighting and violence over fashion arguments. Students tend to tease others who do not have trendy clothes. School uniforms also help children whose parents cannot afford expensive clothes as this eliminates bullies from taunting them about their clothes.

Do you have an opinion about this highly controversial topic? Does your child's school impose crazy clothing rules which no-one wants to abide to? Just give us a shout, we'll be happy to hear your thoughts!
