As a college student, getting a job is something we all want, mainly for the money. Although, it can be very tough these days to find snag one. Hopefully, with these tips, you'll be able to finally get that part-time job of yours in no time. =D

Tips for Snagging a Job

With the poor economy today, finding and getting a job is tricky and tough.  Here are some tips I have found that work for me.  Hope it helps!!

  1. Create a resume.  Don’t know how to make one?  Just google it.  There are a bunch of free online tools that can help and show you how.  It always looks good to have one to show previous experience and education.  It makes you looked prepared and ready for the job.
  2. Apply everywhere possible.  If you even have a little experience or a good desire to learn, try it.  Out of a good number of applications, you’re bound to land at least one job.
  3. Call back a few days after handing in the application.  Yes, some people get annoyed, but oh well.  It says to the manager that you are eager to work.
  4. Always dress nice for the interview.  Even if it’s just for Mcdonald’s? YES!  First impressions are everything and if anything you get a smile from the manager.  Dress nice, cover up tattoos, take out any piercings, etc.
  5. Show up at least 5 minutes early, at most 15 minutes.  It shows your ready to    work and that you will show up on time in the future.
  6. Be confident! Confidence is key.  If you show up to the interview, feeling sorry for yourself and thinking “This is like my 112th interview this week.  Yet again I’m probably not going to get the job” Then of course your not going to get it!  Believe you are going to get it and most likely you will!!
  7. Smile!!!
  8. Be polite to everyone.  If you see a customer coming as you go into the interview, open the door for them.  Tell the manager “thank you” and “have a nice day” when leaving.
  9. Volunteer while waiting trying to get a job.  Then, when you go into that interview, you can have your recent work experience to talk about and it shows you are dying to work and are not lazy!!

These are just some things I have done whenever I have tried to get a job.  It does get hard sometimes and feels as if the job offer is never going to come, but each time I have gone to get a job at most it has only taken me a month to finally get it!  Keep your head up and I am sure that with these tips, a job will finally offer to hire you!!  Good luck!!
