How to erase songs from your iPod
The ways to remove and delete songs from your Apple iPod MP3 player.
Quick and Easy Removal of Songs on Your iPod
Erasing songs from your iPod is just as easy as adding songs to your iPod. All you'll need is your iPod, your USB connector or iPod dock connected to your computer, and the iTunes program. To save time and get you erasing songs as soon as possible, I'll assume that you have iTunes installed and have already used the software and iPod a few times already.
Open up iTunes and connect your iPod to your computer. In a few seconds the computer and iTunes should recognize the iPod and a little icon will show up in the iTunes menu. The menu is on the left hand side of the iTunes program and you should see a little iPod icon (if you have named your iPod that name will show up next to the icon). Click on this and you'll now be browsing whatever files are on your iPod.
Under the iPod icon and iPod name in the same left menu you should see a few options depending on your iPod menu. The first one should be 'Music'. If there are no sub menus under your iPod icon, click the small arrow to the right of the iPod icon and name to drop down the menu and see the sub menus.
Click on the music sub menu under the iPod and you'll see your entire song collection that is currently on the iPod listed in the main screen of iTunes, to the right of the menu you've been using. From there you can select multiple songs or one at a time. Once selected you can right click or hit delete and iTunes will prompt you to confirm that you want to delete this file. Some versions of iTunes will give you the option to remove the file simply from the iPod or from your iTunes library as well. If you still want the song, but just not on your iPod, don't select the option that would remove it from the library as well.
Some versions of iTunes also allow the user to sync the iTunes music library with the iPod whenever the iPod is connected to the computer. You can select this option and customize it when you initially click the iPod icon in the left hand side menu in iTunes mentioned at the beginning of this article. Syncing will basically make your iPod a portable clone of your iTunes library. Whenever a song is added or deleted in the library in iTunes, that change will take place on the iPod at the next sync. This option can be customized but it isn't recommended for those with smaller capacity iPods such as the Nano or Shuffle as many iTunes libraries over time grow to become larger than the capacity of the iPod.
And there you have it, fast and easy song deletion on your iPod that will free up your iPod's storage for the songs you actually want to listen to.
