Aloe Vera - A Complete Oral Health Care System
New research found that using aloe vera gel as toothpaste was better for people who suffered pain as a result of having sensitive teeth.
Everyone likes to have nice white healthy teeth and many people often spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on having their teeth whitened, straightened or even having implants. As a matter of fact you need only do a search on Google to see how big cosmetic dentistry has become.
Without a doubt looking after our teeth is of great importance in our modern world and now new research published in the Academy of General Dentistry in June 2009 has revealed that the use of aloe as a toothpaste provides clean, healthy teeth as it eliminates the bacteria which cause cavities just as well as normal toothpaste.
The study compared the use of aloe vera gel against two popular brands of toothpaste and found that it was as effective and in some cases more effective than the toothpaste when it came to eliminating bacteria.
Another point highlighted in the new research found that using aloe vera gel as toothpaste was better for people who suffered pain as a result of having sensitive teeth. Because the aloe gel does not contain the abrasive elements found in normal toothpaste it is therefore much gentler on the teeth and so when used by someone with sensitive teeth, does not cause pain or discomfort.
As aloe also contains antiseptic properties using the gel as toothpaste will of course not just keep your teeth clean and free from bacteria but it will also ensure your gums are free from unhealthy bacteria. Gum disease is an awful problem to have as it can also lead to amongst many other health issues, heart attacks as a result of the bacteria from the gums finding its way into the blood stream and causing a build up of plaque in the arteries which in turn creates blockages and inflammation. Needless to say that toxins leaking from the gums into the blood stream is not conducive to anyone keeping in good health.
To conclude having always been aware of the health benefits of aloe vera due to the many properties the plant contains, I cannot say that I am at all surprised at learning about the results of this latest research. However, it is necessary to point out here that not all aloe products are equal. In order for the product to be effective the raw aloe must be processed according to strict criteria to ensure the gel is stabilized and preserved so as not to lose its nutrient rich value.
There are many thousands of products which claim to contain aloe however, it could be that the percentage of aloe in the product is so minute as to be irrelevant or alternatively, the aloe has not been manufactured to the correct criteria which means that it will be ineffectual as it will no longer contain active properties thereby making it completely useless. I would say the rule of thumb for spotting high quality aloe products will be found reflected in the price of item that is being considered for purchase. If you can buy half a dozen for a couple of dollars then it is pretty certain that you will not be purchasing the best quality aloe vera product available.
