The Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day
The Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon is one of Atlanta's annual Thanksgiving Day events.
The Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon is one of Atlanta's annual Thanksgiving Day events. The Atlanta Marathon begins at 7:30 am, and the Half Marathon at 7:00 am on Thanksgiving Day. The Atlanta Marathon is a 26.2 mile race and starts and finishes at Turner Field Stadium in downtown Atlanta. The 13.1 mile Half Marathon starts at the intersection of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Clairmont Road and also ends at Turner Field Stadium. Atlanta is expecting over 6,000 runners in the Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon.
The deadline for runners to enter the Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon is Tuesday, November 24th. If you plan to run in the race, you will not be allowed to take the following items: baby strollers, inline skates, skateboards, bicycles, scooters, headphones and mp3 players. No prize money is offered or awarded to the winners of the Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon. Aid stations will be located along the course of the Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon. Aid stations will be equipped with water, other drinks and Vaseline, and porta-potties and first aid will also be available to runners.
Spectators may come to watch the runners. The best place to watch the Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon is at the corner of Peachtree Road and Piedmont Road, although there are many other intersections to watch from. Over one thousand volunteers are also needed for the Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon.
Atlanta streets will not be closed to traffic. Intersections throughout the race will be monitored by Atlanta police and Atlanta Marathon & Half Marathon official volunteers.
