Mobile phones have long outgrown their original purpose of enabling people to talk to each other. They are now a multimedia device and some have already beginning to replace a variety of items like game consoles, messaging terminals, music players, digital cameras, security badges, credits cards, digital diaries, health monitors, alarm clocks, navigation guides, interactive newspapers, or even TV.

They are now a multimedia device which could in the near future replace a variety of items like game consoles, messaging terminals, music players, digital cameras, security badges, credits cards, digital diaries, health monitors, alarm clocks, navigation guides, interactive newspapers, or even TV.

The good news is that you are not at risk if you have a cell phone that enables you to merely talk and SMS. The problems begin if the phone is enabled to handle data or has Bluetooth technology.

A cell phone virus is quite like a computer virus. Once you receive and install the virus, it starts looking for other Bluetooth phones in the vicinity to infect. And if you turn on your Bluetooth for files transfers, this virus may even be send unknowingly to your other friend’s phone too and in this way the virus can be passed from cell phone to cell phone

What does the virus do?  The virus sends infected MMS messages to all the phone numbers in the address list. Since sending MMS messages is not free, you are actually paying money to send virus to your friends, family members and business associates. The virus can tamper or delete all the contact details and calendar entries in your phone. They can even delete or lock up the certain phone applications or even crash. Some have been known to show up as games, pornographic material or free downloads and like text messages camouflaged with a stolen subject from friends messages in your inbox. Some virus have been known to even collect all the numbers or e-mails listed on your phone to be send to the virus writer. In all these, the user knowingly or otherwise has installed the virus. But clever virus writers have the knack of getting you to open and install the bug by disguising it as a desirable application. Mobile virus can cause trouble as well as financial loss.

Do’s and Don’ts: Enable Bluetooth only when you need it. Learn to say “no” and turn on your Bluetooth only for file that you are expecting. Never download any unscanned material from sharing networks like games, ring tones, and other programs from legal or official websites and never install any application that you are not sure of because usually the cell phone can be infected form websites that are trusted. And it’s always better if you scan your cell phone from time to time through your PC or it will be better if you install an anti virus for your cell phone itself. You can scan it regularly if you happen to download lots of files from the internet because originally most viruses are installed from the internet itself.

Following these simple tips will make you aware of protecting your cell phone.  This will make your safe from any malicious virus from attacking your cell phone.
