New words and phrases are being coined every day. Don't look down upon them. New idiom phrases are derived out of such thoughts. You would have heard of 'ex wife'. But ever heard of step wife? Read on to find out.

                         Step wife:  What's that?

The title completely baffled me.  I know what  Step father, Step mother and Step brother/sister mean  But step wife?  If you have heard of this title, then you are a person living with the times whereas I seem to be out of step.

Anyway, new terms are being invented every day in almost every country.  Once introduced by someone and when  somebody prints the new words, they become dictionary words. When you hear that for the first time you screw up your eye brows until someone puts you wise. The other day right in my own city, Chennai, India, some college students were using some funny words.  Finding myself at sea, I asked them about them.  “Oh these are the abbreviated and combined  words, uncle.  Sometimes we call them ‘combo’ “, they said and elaborated them for my benefit.

“Chillaxed” is a condensed word out of ‘chill’ and ‘relax’.
“Sillout”  is derived from ‘silly’ and ‘out’. A cricket term.
“Awfun” is having an awesome lot of fun.
“Temme” is a short  form of ‘tell me’ and may be replaced by the newly coined
word ‘Bolme’. [‘Bol’ is an Hindi word for ‘tell/say’]
         “Yummylicious” for terribly delicious.

So, next time your ears hear them, don’t get dizzy.  Be in tune with the time.

Now, we come to ‘step wife’.  I wondered what it could mean and broke my head to decipher it.  Not becoming any clearer on my own, I read the article in full.  You know some men can’t forget the divorced first wife.  Her name probably continues to linger on in their tongue.  And, she is supposed to be the ‘step wife’.  Imagine that. True, one could call her by the title ‘ex wife’.  As if ‘ex-wife’ has become a  cliché and awesome, some guy has named her ‘step wife’.  Strangely,  this term cannot be expanded with suffixes and prefixes. ‘Step wife’ remains  step wife and  one who is  outside a divorcee’s life.  The man concerned might be introducing her to his current wife as, ‘ my step wife’.

How nice to maintain the link with the step wife even after divorcing her. “Old habits die hard” sort of thing, eh?  If our hero continues his relationship with her, gets closer  and decides to remarry her, the current wife would become “step wife no.2”, won’t she?  Great.

Have a nice day and gear up your  head receiver to listen to more such combo’s.  OK?
