You may not know the following facts about toys for children and adults. The following facts about toys may surprise you but then again these are just trivial facts.

Here are 15 facts about toys that are so trivial you don't need to know them.

  1. Toy makers discover that in the US, when the divorce rate goes up so do the sales of toys. This may be due to the increasing number of single parents who may feel guilty about the divorce and having to leave their children with baby-sitters while they go out to work and therefore to compensate, they buy more toys for their children.
  2. The best selling Barbie ever is Totally Hair Barbie. There must be many children who like to mess around with hair!
  3. The yo-yo originated from the Phillippines where it is used as a weapon for hunting.
  4. Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.
  5. If Barbie were to be life size, her measurement would have been 5 feet 9 inches, 33-18-31.5
  6. A Slinky when stretched out fully will measure 87 feet.
  7. In 1946, Mr Potato Head became the first TV commercial to air.
  8. In 1957, the biggest selling toy is the hula hoop.
  9. The Slinky can be purchased from every continent of the world except for Antarctica.
  10. Barbie was named after the creator's (Ruth Handler) daughter's name. Ken was named after her son.

  15. 'Checkmate' comes from the Persian word 'shah mat' which means the 'The king is dead'.
