best of the best top five gifts for your favorite frequent traveler

Lowepro Rolling CompuTrekker

There are so many travel gadgets and thingamajigs out there that it makes your head spin to even endeavor to come up with a satisfying gift for the frequent traveler in your life. Instead of endlessly searching through gaggles of Google searches, read on to find out the best of the best top five gifts for your favorite frequent voyager I found while perusing through the mountains of traveling gear in cyberspace. These should make your job much easier, and you’ll be awarded with many smiles and thank yous, and a very happy traveler.

  1. LoweproRollingCompuTrekker

An Electronics Storage Organizer / Converts to backpack -
This will really help your favorite traveler get organized. I found this really cool rolling case (it’s called the Lowepro Rolling CompuTrekker) that converts to a backpack, has an all weather cover (for rain or extreme conditions), it meets all current requirements for carry-ons, its velex-lined dividers will give all your cables, cords, chargers, battery packs, and everything electronic you might need to bring with you. It even has a removable notebook computer sleeve that protects most twelve inch laptops from sudden impacts (it’s adjustable too). This pack is actually made for travel journalists and photographers to house all their equipment while having a safe place to keep all their stuff and keep it close at hand while offering maximum protection for all their gear, but…it seems like it would be the perfect solution to keep all your electronics stored in one organized place. You could even pack your clothes in it and have an all-in-one pack carry-on. Get it at Amazon (see resources). Runs from $150-$275 depending on where you look and what accessories it comes with.

  2. pajamas for your ears

Noise Canceling Headphones, Earplugs or SleepPhones
When traveling, there are so many sounds you really might not want to hear (snorers, screaming children, woodpeckers outside your window, construction, etc.). When all you really need is a good rest there always seems to be something preventing your precious slumber. I’ve found the perfect solution if you find headphones or earplugs uncomfortable while trying to rest, nap or actually sleep through the night. They’re called SleepPhones, and they’re made of soft fleece that comfort your head (even if you’re a side sleeper. They even include sleep tracks (through very thin speakers) that help you fall asleep (listen to nature sounds mixed with a sound technology that guides your brain to sleep while blocking out all external noise). These are a must have for any traveler or the perfect solution for any suffering insomniac. (see SleepPhones in Resources).

  3. A Universal Plug Adapter Kit is always going to be useful for your frequent traveler, especially if they journey outside of the States. This convenient all-in-one design adapts to the four most used shapes and will work in over 150 countries, and it’s usually under $25. (see resources)

  4. A Good Book or a Kindle -
A Kindle is perfect for book lovers who want to get rid of the bulk and it’s shaping up to be one of Amazon’s best sellers. It’s their simple to use wireless reading device that requires no computer, no cables, no syncing. Or if you’d like to get them a new and hot-off-the-press bestseller, Look in resources for Kindle and the bestsellers list updated weekly.

  5. Leatherman Multi Tool – or Utili-Key
Leatherman multi purpose tools are great and have everything you need including knives, pliers, screwdrivers in different sizes, wire cutters, bottle/can openers, scissors, saws and much more. If you’re worried about traveling with such an item try the Utili-Key 6-in-1 Key Ring Tool, it’s a lightweight self-locking multi tool that hides in your key ring. It’s got almost everything the Leatherman does like a bottle opener, screwdrivers (flat and phillips), knife blades (straight and serrated) and even a eyeglass micro screwdriver, and because of its appearance (its disguised as a key) it can hide it plain sight. See resources.

Tips
  • Don’t forget a little light for them (a Maglight or wrist light is great), and the bug spray, baby wipes and duct tape as stocking stuffers for the explorer, traveler or trekker in your life could come in handy more often than not, and they’ll be glad you thought of them. A combination lock is also another great little item to secure the zippers on your suitcase (it never hurts to keep pickpocketers at bay). Throw in a photo from home for them to take along on their journeys…it’ll remind them of what’s at home waiting for them.
