Choosing pots to use for climbing Jasmine vine starters is not difficult. Terra cotta pots work best, but need to be large enough for good growth. Two pots are needed, one for watering the planting. Unglazed is best.

Things you'll need:

  • Terra Cotta pots, 12-14" for soil
  • Terra Cotta pots, 2-3" for watering plants
  • Unglazed is best
  1. SELECT MAIN POT FROM AVAILABLE TERRA COTTA POTS. Unglazed is best so pot can breathe. Select a 12-inch to 14-inch pot. A used pot is fine if it is cleaned thoroughly with plain hot water and set to dry completely before using. Use hard bristle brush to clean off any deleterious materials on pots. Rinse after cleaning and dry.  See  http://www.ehow.com/how_5395896_control-plant-pests-organically.html
  2. SELECT SMALL TERRA COTTA POT FOR WATERING PURPOSES. Use 2-inch to 3-inch diameter pot. This smaller pot will fit inside the larger pot to provide watering vehicle as needed. The small pot will be pushed down into the sterile potting soil to the edge of its’ rim, allowing the ability to fill little pot completely for one watering. Water will drain out of small pot into the soil as needed.  See also  http://www.ehow.com/how_5383393_add-organic-nutrients-soil.html
  3. USE UNGLAZED TERRA COTTA POTS TO ALLOW POTS TO BREATHE. The porous clay pot will enable the plants to get all the air and moisture they need. Keep main pot clean on outside by wiping down occasionally with a clean cloth over the winter months when the plants are in growing cycle before spring. Do not place pots next to a heating outlet. Place pots inside near a natural light window, but not next to cold window. Other pot containers will work, but not as well as unglazed terra cotta.  See also  http://www.ehow.com/how_5211135_build-inexpensive-gardenpatio-table.html

Tips and Warnings:

  • Always clean used terra cotta between plantings.
  • Always water using the smaller pot.
  • Put inside near window area for sunlight.
  • Do not over water.
  • Avoid direct heat from register and cold from window glass.
  • Make sure terra cotta pots are dry and thoroughly cleaned before reusing.
