How to Bond With Your Dog
Want to spend more quality time with your dog? Here's how to bond with your canine best friend.
Whether you have a new dog or want to establish a closer bond with your current dog, there are a variety of ways to bring the two of you closer together and create a more meaningful human-canine relationship. The more quality time you spend with your dog, the stronger your bond will be. Here are some ways to promote a stronger relationship with your dog:
How to bond with your dog: Spend time with your dog
Quality time spent together is one of the best ways to strengthen the relationship with your dog. If you work a full time job and household responsibilities, it can be difficult to find time to spend with your dog. Why not make a commitment to walk your dog for thirty minutes each morning before work? Not only will you be bonding with your dog, you'll be fulfilling your own commitment to get more exercise. If you don't have time in the evening to focus on structured activity with your dog, let him lie beside you as you do your work on the computer. Something as simple as this can be very satisfying to a canine who is social by nature.
How to bond with your dog: Establish little rituals
Little daily rituals can help you bond with your dog. When you come home from work, have a healthy dog treat in your pocket to give to Fido. Treat your dog to a ten minute soothing massage each day or take your dog in the car when you run your daily errands, weather permitting. These small activities can help to strengthen the bond the two of you share.
How to bond with your dog: Take an active role in training your dog.
Sign up for a local obedience class with your dog. This will not only help to foster your relationship but will also turn your dog into a well mannered, model canine citizen. Your dog will discover through obedience training that you are a strong and capable leader which is reassuring to him. If you don't have access to an obedience class, get a good book on dog training and spend thirty minutes each evening working with your dog. Once you have basic obedience training conquered, you can teach your dog some fun tricks.
How to bond with your dog: Take your dog with you on a get away.
Although many people travel with their dogs these days, there are other activities closer to home that can provide a welcome retreat for you and your dog. Why not take your dog on a weekend hike along a nature trail? Bring along fresh water and treats for both of you to share. This can be very relaxing from a human standpoint also. On a warm sunny day, take your dog on a trip to the lake or to a nearby beach that's dog friendly. Sign up for a local dog walk in your area to help the plight of homeless animals. Take your dog to a local dog park for the afternoon. These are all ways to build a stronger relationship with your dog.
If you want to strengthen the bond between you and your dog, give some of these ideas a try. They can be a source of enjoyment and satisfaction for both you and your dog.
