Most Common Ways to Induce Labor Yourself
Ways to induce labor are in one of two categories: medically or naturally. Most medical ways to induce labor include "stripping" or with drugs. One such drug is called pitocin, and is usually the one used by doctors to start contractions. If you want to go the natural way there are several options possible.
Stay Active - Labor usually won't start until your baby has descended into a position low enough. Some women carry their child too high for it to start being born. By doing easy and light physical activity, you can encourage your child's descent. Many women like a few minutes of jogging or yoga.
Relaxation - Stress is harmful to everyone's body, even more so to a pregnant woman's. Are you psyching yourself out or working too hard? This could be delaying your labor. Labor will not start if you're stressed By learning about ways to induce labor, you have begun the process of gaining more control.
Use Acupressure - Like acupuncture (but easier!), acupressure involves the manipulation of certain pressure points on your body. It's a long-standing Chinese practice, and recent medical research proves it can induce labor. Acupressure can be done at home.
Use Food to Induce Labor? - Some scientists have found medically useful enzymes in 2 unique fruits: mango and pineapple. These enzymes are believed to assist in the ripening of your cervix. Another thing to consider, have you heard about women who swear up and down that a late night spicy Mexican dinner brought about contractions? It's worth trying!
Nipple Stimulation - As mentioned before, when medical professionals learn how to induce labor, they frequently use a drug called pitocin since it often begins contractions in pregnant women. What they won't tell you though is that this drug is just a synthetic version of the hormone oxytocin - a chemical women make every day. To start the release of this hormone for yourself, many women rub their nipples. This can often bring on elevated levels of oxytocin in their body which might induce labor.
