There is nothing like the smell of clothes that have been dried outside! Sheets and blankets smell so good after drying in the fresh air! I find that the best smelling time of year for drying clothes is in the Spring and Fall. The best part ... your utility bills will go down!

Carefully choose a place for your clothes line. Choose a nice open space with some shade. This will keep clothes from getting so stiff from the sun shining on them. Choose your favorite clothes pins. There are some that clip on and some that just push on. I personaly prefer the clip on kind. I tend to push too hard on the push on type and break them in half.

Place your clothes in the washer and wash clothes as you would normally wash them. Be sure to add your favorite liquid softener to the rinse cycle. Dryer sheets are good for indoor drying in the dryer, but not so good for hanging clothes outside.

Remove clothes from the washer into a basket. If it is not a windy day, give them a quick shake to get out some of the wrinkles. Take the basket outside. Don't forget the clothes pins! If you like, you can purchase a basket to hang on the line that will hold your clothes pins while you are hanging your clothes. The other way is to keep them in the basket with your clothes.

As you are hanging clothes, try to put the longest, heaviest clothes closest to the pole. As you hang clothes, they will weigh the line and the clothes will hang close to the ground. Keep your clothes from touching the ground. You don't want your clean clothes to get dirty!

Once your clothes are dry, remove, fold and put away. Beware, the smell of laundry dried in the fresh air is very addicting. There is nothing like sheets and blankets that have that hung outside smell!
