Many people get affected by the problem of dry skin not only in winter but also during the summer months. This is due to the increased humidity that is caused indoors in winter and outdoors in summer which adds up to the problem further.

There are several symptoms of dry skin that include redness and a tight feeling when you attempt to bend your fingers or even in the slightest movement of your hand. Bleeding and cracking may also occur in case of extreme dry skin. This is the most unpleasant part of dry skin as it causes a great deal of embarrassment and, as expected it is also very painful. While it often seems that there is no way to end this discomfort, there are several tips to help individuals who suffer from dry skin.

Avoid excessive washing with water: Though it is important to maintain proper hygiene, washing your hands excessively or showering multiple times each day may promote dry skin. After washing, it is equally important to dry your skin thoroughly to prevent it from chapping further.

Use a good moisturizing soap: Use a soap that has moisturizing lotion. This will be gentler on your skin and will add moisture back where it has been otherwise removed. If possible, avoid harsh soaps that dry out or strip the skin of its essential oils and natural moisture.

Exfoliate your skin: Use a quality exfoliation product to remove dry and/or dead skin cells. By removing the old cells, you will expose the healthy cells and may be better able to fight against nature’s harmful effects.

Use gentle skin care products: One of the most effective dry skin treatment products is a good moisturizing cream enriched with Aloe Vera for added benefits of any good skin care brand. This moisturizing cream provides instant relief for dry skin and can be applied not only to your hands but to the entire body as well. You can even apply a cold cream on your lips in the winter months to prevent them from chapping further.

Increase your fluid intake: Dry skin is also caused by imbalance of fluids inside the body. It is therefore necessary to increase the amount of fluids in your daily diet especially in the form of juices. Water is also very beneficial for this purpose. The person affected by the problem of dry skin should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day to maintain an optimum fluid balance within the body.

Consult a dermatologist in extreme cases: If problem worsens or persists, consult a dermatologist. In some instances, over-the-counter products may not be able to treat severe cases of dry skin. A dermatologist has the ability to recommend stronger treatment products, which may be needed in some instances.

Thus it can be concluded that problem of dry skin affects almost every individual and it becomes essential to treat this condition to prevent the skin from further dryness.
