It's never too late to learn a new skill, improve a talent or to discover a new interest. Going back to the classroom, as an adult, can greatly improve the quality of your life.

As the lazy summer days become a distant memory, and the children are once again back at school, now is the perfect time to consider injecting a little extra curricular activity into your own day-to-day routine.

Perhaps you have a hobby you love, and crave spending more time enjoying. Maybe you’d like to improve your gardening, computer or craft skills? Would like to learn how to relax and really savour your free time (think yoga, pilates or meditation classes)? Or have always dreamt of being able to dance like a professional (salsa, tango and other dance classes are usually available locally)? Whatever your passion is there is a course out there just for you.

Embarking on a new course of learning not only means you will be acquiring new knowledge and skills but you’ll also be meeting new, like-minded people who you’d never normally encounter. Your confidence will get a healthy boost as you develop a skill or uncover a talent. Stress levels will also lower, which will make you feel more capable and encourage you to think positively on a daily basis. Challenging yourself mentally now will help prevent the onset of memory loss, in later years. How many more reasons do you need to convince yourself today is the day to try a fresh experience?

If the thought of going back-to-the-classroom, however, fills you will dread and you only feel brave enough to try just one little thing…how about learning to be spontaneous? Breaking with routine can add a fresh, exciting dimension to your usual chores, tasks and habits, and better still, requires very little effort. You could start this trend by sampling some unusual tasty treats in your packed lunch; changing the route you travel to work; wearing a colour you were convinced didn’t suit you…the list of potential spontaneous possibilities is simply endless. And the best bit is that once you start you’ll look forward to adding spontaneous moments to your day every day.
