Foyer Makeovers... Staging Your Home

Foyers are the first thing people see when they come into your home. It's even more important when you are trying to sell your home. Here's a few things to keep in mind.

* Absolutely no clutter at all. That means everything off the floor and into the closet. And while I'm on the topic of closets, be sure that there is one layer and one layer only when it comes to shoes. When we first put the house up for sale, I was amazed at how many pairs of shoes were in the foyer. I alone had four pairs and no I'm not kidding. When I tried to store them in the closet... there were too many and I even tried stacking them on top of each other. It looked horrible and there are only three of us. So... remove all the shoes that you don't wear on a daily basis.

* Keep the floor swept at all times and polished. That doesn't hurt either. When people leave your home, a shiny floor shows just how much you care about your home.

* For some reason foyer walls are notorious for marks. It could be that people lean against the wall with their fingertips to balance as they are putting on their shoes and boots... but smudges always find a way of depositing themselves.

* A bench is always handy and if you have yet to buy one, be sure to look for one that provides storage. It's great when you need a place to store hats, gloves and scarves. The seat of ours simply lifts up, you dump everything inside and you close the lid. Your foyer is neat and tidy in a blink of an eye!

* Don't forget an air freshener but nothing over powering. The scent is supposed to be inviting, but not so strong as to make them sneeze!

So there you go... take a look at your foyer and see if it could use a little work. It's amazing what you don't see until it's pointed out to you.
