Movie Review - Cannonball
A movie about cross country racing and rampage.
This movie released in the year 1976, directed by Paul Bartel, is based on the illegal racing game that, were organized in US in those days. These illegal cross country races were organized where all the contestants were let free to do all shorts of things to out smart their opponents.
The main character in the movie is David Carradine, who plays the role of a road racer. He gets caught while on a road race but later gets released only to re enter in another race, despite being warned that he won't be saved if caught again. This time he enters the race with his girl friend whose role is played by Veronica Hamel. Also in the race is his friend on a similar car and a similar getup so as to cover for the real Cannonball if things go out of hand. Then the race starts. All the contestants perform all shorts of tricks to out wit their rivals. But during the course of the race a disaster is caused and a huge pile up is built up in the city. Well to know what happened next in the movie you have to watch it.
My thoughts about the movie-
1. This movie is based on the illegal cross country races that were organized in United States. These races were very dangerous and often resulted in severe loss of money and life.
2. The concept of the movie is very strong, and the story too, but the script and the way in which the narration is made is poor. Every one will not understand what is narrated in the movie.
3. One best part of the movie is the cameo appearances given by several prominent actors that included - Martin Scorsese, Roger Corman, and Sylvester Stallone etc. who played the role of various contestants of the movie. Some people find this interesting, so hey can check this out.
4. The movie runs for a little more than one and a half hours. And at times you feel like the movie is stretched up.
5. Some very nice cars were used in the race that includes a Ford Mustang, a Chevrolet and a Pontiac Trans Am. These cars end up being debris as they run into a huge destructive pile up.
