Quick and simple instructions on how to decorate a grapevine wreath. This is not an expensive project. You can use silk flowers bought inexpensively in a bunch at a discount store.

I have always loved the look of a grapevine wreath.  They go with any decor, and they seem to never go out of style.  When my children were younger, I sold wreaths and other crafts.  I also taught some classes at the Parks and Recreation on different wreaths.

I will show you how to decorate a grapevine wreath.   This one is easy, and anyone can do it..

Instructions:

Materials:

A round grapevine wreath.  It doesn't matter what size.

Silk Flowers  This one used silk flowers out of an inexpensive silk arrangement.

Spanish Moss:  I like brown; these have green.

pine cones or other natural additions

raffia

ribbon.

Glue, Allene’s Tacky glue and a glue gun used together are best.

Instructions:

1.  Glue Moss to a fourth of the wreath.  I always use the left side between 6:00 o’clock to 10:00 o’clock.

2. People think they have to have very expensive florals when they decorate a grapevine wreath.  You can leave  your  silk flowers on the stems, and connected together in a bunch.  Bend a stem of 3 or 4 flowers to fit the wreath.  Tuck the wire into the wreath.  Apply some glue if you are concerned about it staying attached and to pull the stems toward the wreath.  You can also later tie a piece or two of raffia to pull some of the fullness towards the wreath.  When I made these wreaths, I was at church decorating for a ladies dinner and I only had tacky glue.

3.  Repeat the procedure  with another bunch of flowers….if you have individual  flowers,  stick those into the wreath in the same way.

Just tuck the ends down into the grapevine.  You can dip them in glue if you wish.

4.  Artfully, glue pine cones and other naturals in between the Flowers. You should use the glue gun to anchor these heavier items, along with some tacky glue for longevity.   Little leaves look nice, too.  Also add little pieces of raffia tied in loose bows, with tendrils  hanging down.

5.  When you make a wreath, you want to create a focal point at the bottom of the grapevine wreath.  I like to use a big bow.   A combination of ribbon and naturals tied in a bow is nice.

There is a reason that I use both hot glue and tacky glue combined when I decorate a grapevine wreath or make a wreath of any kind.       One Christmas I did beautiful pine cone wreaths for everyone.  Everyone loved them and immediately hung them for the remainder of the holiday season.  However,  the next Christmas, the glue gun glue had released and everyone found just a box of pine cones waiting on them!
