Sell Articles on DailyArticle.com: Four Tips
These 4 tips helped me to sell articles on DailyArticle.com, perhaps they'll help you too.
The web site http://www.DailyArticle.com offers freelance writers the opportunity to sell their work in a marketplace where they set their own prices. All that's needed is an account for which writers may register free of charge. DailyArticle.com keeps 20% from sales and pays the author 80% through paypal. Writers receive compensation towards the end of the month, at least that's been my experience as the sales I make are usually at the end of the month.
Writers must be willing to sell full rights to their original content that the site passes through Copyscape. When putting the article up for sale you'll need a plain text file since there's no way to copy and paste the article. New articles, once approved, appear immediately on the home page which is nice. Lately, new articles have been slow to be added allowing for a longer placement on the home page.
Writers can easily keep track of their articles up for sale and the categories they're in as well as the articles they've sold and for how much. I don't write for DailyArticle.com very frequently; I never have because I don't really like selling full rights through the site. Nevertheless, I did put a few articles up for sale there and was able to sell most of them. Some took a month or so to sale, others sold within a couple of days and I've made well over $100.00 with moderate and sporadic effort.
Here are some tips for other freelance writers who'd like to try their hand at selling articles on DailyArticle.com.
Be Careful With Pricing
Although writers are at liberty to set their own prices for their articles, the truth is that a high price will freeze sales. I've seen 400 word articles priced at $30.00. I know that the editors, web masters and publishers buying the articles are getting full rights and should pay a fair price. However, $30.00 for a 400 word article simply won't work. Buyers can get a quality 400 word article at the expensive Constant-Content.com web site for less than that. The truth is that articles priced over $10.00 may be slow to sale and may not sell at all. The most I've sold a 500 word article for is $16.00. I was pretty confident that I could get that price due to the subject matter. I've also sold articles for $15.00, but the average price I ask is between $10.00 and $12.00 for articles between 400 and 500 words.
Write Quality Articles In Proper English
There's a terrible deterioration taking place in the use of proper English. DailyArticle.com claims that they review articles for proper punctuation, spelling and grammar, but this simply isn't true once you've passed the "editors" and/or made a sale. Now any article that I want to put up for sale appears immediately on the home page without going through any approval process.
This is good only in the sense that authors who've sold on the site before don't have to wait for approval. However, it's bad in the sense that some writers become careless and articles with gross punctuation, spelling and grammatical errors now appear. This harms the reputation of the site as a whole.
The articles for sale are featured with a title, brief description, and a link for a potential buyer to read more which is an excerpt chosen by automation. I've seen articles up for sale with all kinds of punctuation, spelling and grammatical errors. The title of one article was something like "How to Stop Anti-Aging". Who would buy an article written by an author who didn't even take the time to make sure the title made sense?
Also, there seems to be a major lack of understanding in the difference between "their", "there", and "they're" even among people who hold a college degree. Isn't the study of at least English Composition I required for any kind of degree from an accredited college? Many writers don't know how to differentiate between "your" and "you're" or when to use "a" and when to use "an".
Most word processors today have spell check and most book stores and libraries have books on English grammar. Sure, mistakes will be made, I've seen them in books, I've spotted them in my articles after publication and I've seen them on sites like Constant-Content.com who pride themselves on professionalism. The point is that there's too much carelessness regarding proper English and some even take an attitude when something like a misspelling is pointed out to them--something I'd be happy for as I hate proofreading. It's just necessary.
Carelessness in the proper use of English will definitely make a writer look bad at DailyArticle.com and will bar them from sites like Constant-Content.com. This is the last thing they need when trying to make a sale.
Diversify
There are just some subjects I can't muster up enough interest to be able to write on--sports for example. Nevertheless, writers wanting sales may want to diversify the topics on which they write as much as possible while maintaining quality. This may not sound appealing as research is usually required to write on subjects with which you have little familiarity, but it may be the difference in whether you have pay coming or not.
Give Accurate Descriptions
The author of articles up for sale at DailyArticle.com have to write their own sales pitch to entice potential buyers to click to read more. When they read more they're actually reading a randomly chosen excerpt. A simple one sentence description like "this article is about..." may not be sufficient to grab the attention of a potential buyer. I either give as detailed a description as I can and/or I give an excerpt of my choosing to sell the article.
What works for some freelance writers won't work for others. These are just some of the things I've done that have brought me success selling articles on DailyArticle.com
