This memoir is from a nurse while attending nursing school. One little episode in a student nurse's life.

Not mentioning any names, you will be able to be entertained, surprised, thrilled and maybe shocked at this and my coming episodes. If you seem to fit any of the people stated by concocted names, it is by your admission that the truth is divulged.

In training, what seems eons ago, a group of 3 students worked together in the nurtrition class.  One cooked the menu items, one attended to the designated patient of the three, while the third was the patient. Then the roles rotated, so each had a turn being each of the things mentioned. What was cooked had to be eaten by the patient, no matter how awful it turned out at the end. The pay back might be given, but hopefully your friends did everything well and did not require such action.

The instructor inspected each of the roles of the students on performance to carry out the duties in that role. I was designated the patient and climbed into bed, in uniform, without my shoes, of course.  One of my fellow students, Phoebe, was not very well known by me. while another, Kathy, was a close friend. Phoebe was cooking poached eggs and milk toast while Kathy attended my set up needs for the meal. Kathy searched the room to check that the flowers were in fresh water, drapes were open to allow light into the dingy room and the window was a jar for fresh air.  Kathy then proceeded to bring a basin of warm water so I could wash my hands before the meal. She made sure I had a wash cloth, soap and a towel. I was asked if I needed any assistance in accomplishing that task. My bed was hand cranked up to a high fowlers position, pillow was positioned and the over bed table was in place for me to consume the poached eggs and milk toast.

First of all I am not fond of eggs and sure was not then either. If I even ate eggs they were and till have to be so hard they can be used as foundation blocks. I like dry toast, not soggy milk toast. During my interaction with my nurse, Kathy, I summoned her to eat my serving for me, which she agreed to do.  That had to be done secretly so  the instructor did not see that I was not consuming my serving as I supposed to.

Kathy took a bite and I chewed as if I had something in my mouth. Kathy turned her back, so the instructor did not see her with food in her mouth. Phoebe saw the antics and stood there becoming a friend of mine, after keeping my secret between the 3 of us. We all got good grades for that day.
