Warming Up The House For Thanksgiving

Where I live, the winds are beginning to howl and you pretty much need to do everything possible to warm up the house... and a lot of that comes down to how much love you put into it!

1. First things first... put a wreath on the door. It warms up a front door quite nicely.

2. Move the baby cactus from the window sills and arrange pine cones, acorns and chestnuts in their place. Brings a touch of country to the room.

3. Stock up on fall scented candles. There are lots of oranges and brown shades out there that not only look amazing... they smell pretty good too!

4. See if it is possible to create a wooden frame to surround your front door. The structure can help to secure live cedar garlands and shiny red apples that you simply push onto the nails that are protruding from the frame. Saw this at the entrance to a craft shop years ago. It looked amazing! When the holiday season is over, all you have to do is remove the apples and greenery and then store the frame until next year.

5. Go out for a walk and look for some branches that I can put in a vase. There is a park close by and there is always branches laying on the ground. And when no one is looking... I will hang a few strands of tinsel from the branches.

6. Shine up some bright red apples and place them in a wooden bowl on the coffee table. Instant touch of color for the room.

7. Remove whatever greenery that is still in the wooden barrel and replace it with some straw and then nestle in  an assortment of pumpkins. Be sure to pick up some baby pumpkins to set off the big one. You might want to continue this theme by arranging some pumpkins on the steps leading to your front door.
