Simple tips to help you and your family "go green."

The term to 'go green' means that one who chooses to do so is committing themselves to reducing their daily impact on the environment and world through small changes and small sacrifices. But wait, it doesn't have to sound so dry and boring as going green can be a fun, creative, and of course environmentally friendly way to bring the going green spirit into your home.

For starters, here are a few small ways you and your family can begin going green at home. To start off forget about solar power, electric cars, or sitting in your house in darkness because going green doesn't have to mean spending money or sacrificing things you need to live day to day.

Recycling- Start a program in your home that helps all family members recycle. Check with your local laws and recycling facilities to see what can be recycled. Reuse plastic and paper bags to reduce waste. If you have children, consider a family competition to see how many recyclables each member can collect up from their use or around the home or what creative ways they come up with to reuse containers and bags.

Energy Efficient Lighting- Simply begin purchasing energy efficient bulbs that not only save money but they reduce your energy usage which in turn helps the environment.

Leave the Car Behind- Teach your family that for short trips to the store, walking, taking public transportation, or riding a bike/skateboard are all great ways to save money and help the environment at the same time. You'll be surprised how much harmful gasoline burning fumes and smoke is eliminated when we all make small sacrifices and leave the car behind sometimes. Plus it helps support healthy living and exercise.
