Open The Door

Release the catch and unlock your door, you will feel richer and more comfortable when you have everything out in the open.

I love David Crowder’s music. Its the good kind of repetitive, relaxing, simple, easy to relate to and interesting. I really feel I can enjoy just sitting with God when it’s on, it seems to make me feel more at ease, like I accept myself and look and the awesomeness of God.

I was talking to someone a couple of days ago about just opening the door, inviting God in, believing and wanting him to come in. I hate that quick clean up that people do before they invite someone in, because it covers up and says “I’m hiding it until the guest leaves”. Implying that you don’t intend for the person to stay for more than a few minutes. The clean up is a temporary fix, a bit like God’s just coming in for an inspection then leaving. Though this leads to the question, should we do a proper clean before God is allowed in?

For dinner guests, you hide stuff in rooms they won’t go into. Or do you do it like when someone who you live with, who freely roams the house? It would be great if mom cleaned everywhere before I came home. But she doesn’t because I’ve seen the house a mess, because I know what the resident(s) are going through, the reason behind the mess. So actually the big bit is letting God live with you. If He’s a resident then He becomes an intimate part of your life. This happens simply because you know He knows what you’re doing (not that He wouldn’t anyway) but then you can say, easily, guilt free, “could you help me with the dishes? I’m struggling”. This is not something you’d ask a guest to do.

I read somewhere that God respects us, He won’t break down the front door, not because he can’t but because he wants to be a welcomed resident, not an invader.

I think God is a royalty we have little experience of. You are familiar with the Queen and the royal family and have seen how they are treated and received. Now imagine them coming to stay with you. You would go so far out of your way to make the house worthy of their arrival and presence. Your house would be unrecognisable. So now think of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. You know how much higher ranked they are than the Queen and her family. I mean this is the Creator of all! (including the royal family!) So surly things need to be perfect for this ‘person’.

That’s where the lies come. A human being can never ever be perfect, you could prepare for forever and you still wouldn’t be perfect. So this is why people feel guilty about the state of their life and put off letting Him in. One thing that is important to remember is that He already knows what’s going on, what will go on. So it’s for your benefit that He comes in. He knows everything about you and He’s STILL knocking. Surly that means that He just wants to be with you regardless of everything else. In time He will help you, because He cares and doesn’t want you to stay in the mess.

The devil lies and lies and lies to make sure that you don’t open the door. But actually you just have to see through the lies and grab the door knob. Once you’ve done it, you’ll never believe how easy it was.
