Punishment & Salvation: A Simple Solution

If I had to narrow my opinion down to a “yes” or a “no” on capital punishment, there is no doubt that I’d say “yes,” wholeheartedly. After one has taken a life, they have surrendered their rights to their own life. However, I do believe there is a better way to deal with criminals in a manner focused on being more productive to our society and possibly give back what was taken.

A question that will remain in the hearts of many Americans is one of cruelty and unjustness. To house a prisoner on death row and then kill that prisoner, what is the cost? It costs too much, especially since we aren’t getting anything out of it. Why not spend the same amount and cure cancer or AIDS? Instead of injecting them with something that is immediately lethal, why not inject them with an uncured disease or virus? These criminals will be used in finding a cure for whatever they may be injected with. Although they will probably die, their life could save billions of other lives. Just as some donate their organs to those in need, these criminals will donate their bodies to medical research.

The lives of many out-weigh the lives of few or one, an ideology perfectly befitting this type of scenario. Murder is wrong in so many ways, and our society has attempted to deal with this problem by utilizing the “eye for an eye” system of justice, but is that method doing any good for America? Statistics scream for change, let’s indulge them.
