Indulge yourself, especially when you are struggling to get through a trying time. Get a professional massage or pedicure, take a bubble bath, lunch at an outdoor cafe, maybe spend an afternoon browsing through an art exhibit or bookstore.

Adopt a pet. Just having to look after a living creature that provides companionship is a great stress reliever. Besides, having a dog that needs walking will give you the sunshine and light exercise you need.

Volunteer to serve your community somehow. It does not take much time to play bingo with seniors, or deliver meals to the disabled, but focusing on them will take your mind off your problems.

Look at your priorities and learn to let go. Ask yourself, so what's more important, being right and controlling the situation all the time, or your health and well being, every time.

Adjust your attitude. Tell yourself that just for now you will leave behind your expectations and preconceived notions. Just consider the possibility that maybe, no matter how bleak the situation seems, it will turn out for the best. Every dark cloud has a silver lining, and every problem has a blessing in disguise.

Find someone in whom you can confide in, sharing both the sorrows and joys. If discussing stressful issues with friends and family is uncomfortable, talk to a member of the clergy at your place of worship. Or have the doctor refer you to a therapist. Often it's essential to unburden our sorrows with someone before we can move on.

Prescription and over the counter drugs can cause distress and anxiety. This could be anything from anti-inflammatory drugs to muscle relaxants to anti-depressants and antiviral medications. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if it seems that your anxiety may be caused by medication.

Always keep in mind; Start being good to yourself today!
