Learn about the different things to look for in good swimming googles.

Choosing a good pair of swimming goggles is a relatively easy task. The following characteristics and features will guide you in purchasing a good pair of goggles.

Tight fit- Your goggles should have a snug fit but not so tight that they pinch skin around your eyes, nose, or have a tight strap that can give you a headache.

They are a good fit if they keep all water out and make a good seal. Purchasing goggles with a good rubber sealer around the edges will ensure they will fit snug and seal out water.

Good adjustable strap- You want to make sure your goggles feature a well designed adjustable strap. The rubber it is made of should be thick enough to stretch and hold together while being lightweight. Thin or flimsy straps may be easier to adjust or wear but they may stretch over time causing a loose fit or snap altogether after wear and tear.

Anti-Fog- Many goggle companies will make goggles that are coated to prevent or minimize the occurrence of fogging which can be incredibly frustrating and annoying. Coated goggles may scratch more easily so that is their only downside. Most goggles are made of hard plastic although some high end models may be made with strong tempered glass.

One way to prevent some fogging is to blow hot air from your mouth onto them before putting them on. When the rubber makes a seal this warm air inside will help balance the temperature inside versus outside and help reduce fogging.

In the long run you want a pair of goggles that feel barely there, have a secure fit and will last. Its always a good idea to try on goggles before purchasing them because one size does not fit all with goggles.
