The holiday season can be very stressful but when you add shopping on top of that is can be almost overwhelming. There are so many people to buy for and so little time to get everything done it feels like.

When you top that with our already over extended budgets frustrations are bound to show up. If you do a little planning and know what you are looking for before heading out for holiday shopping you can greatly reduce the amount of stress you experience this holiday season. Holidays are supposed to be fun and festive and if you follow these steps below to avoid holiday shopping stress you will truly enjoy the season more.

Things You'll Need:
  • Shopping list
  • Sitter
  • Shop Early
  • Shop Alone
  • Me Time
  • Internet
  • Computer

Instructions:

Shop alone:

Shopping alone helps you stay focused. Unless you need to have a second opinion about things it is usually easier to go with your gut instinct. When more than one person goes shopping there is a chance you will get side tracked from your original list and increase your shopping time. Plus you may not be able to get everything done you needed to.

Don't bring kids:

Kids are always a distraction when shopping and the holiday season only makes it worse. If you don’t have to take the kids I suggest to not bring them. If you must bring a child with you try to include them in the shopping by giving them an item to locate. This will help them stay focused on what you are doing and not the new toy they are interested in.

Have shopping list ready:

List always make shopping easier. If you have an idea of what you are looking for and where to find it you will be more successful on your shopping adventure and more pleased with the final results. That’s not to say you have to stick to it 100% but at least you have a starting point for your shopping trip.

Avoid the holiday rush:

Try to shop for your holiday gifts as early as possible. If you wait till the last minute you will be shoulder to shoulder with others that have done the same thing. Looking for that one item that is no longer in stock can be very frustrating. Just imagine a store full of frustrated last minute shoppers. Shopping early not only helps get rid of holiday shopping stress it also gives you better shopping conditions and choices.

Limit shopping items:

It is less stressful to shop for five items at a time than for everything on your list. Keep in mind after you spend the time shuffling through the store finding the perfect items you have to carry them to the car without dropping and breaking them. Several short shopping trips are less stressful than one big shopping trip.

Unwind after shopping:

No matter how prepared you are shopping is stressful and when you choosing items for others that will add to the stress. Once you are done shopping allow yourself a little me time to unwind. Be grateful you have completed the task at hand and let all the bad feeling and stress from it leave your mind before moving to your next to do. This will make everyone around you more appreciative also.

Shop online:

If you are not a people person you may want to check out the internet for you holiday shopping list. There are no lines, no cranky customers, no babies crying, and best of all if what your looking for is out there you can find it on the internet. There are also lots of special promotions on the internet around the holiday season so you can take advantage of that also.
