Just have a firm belief that you can save money, and remember that every bit that you save now, will come in handy at some point in time. Here are a few money saving ideas that might help you.

Do you know what “Phantom load” is? If not let's understand what it is. Phantom load or leaking electricity is the current that is being utilized by gadgets, when they are plugged into the mains and the mains is turned off! So the next time you leave laptops, cellphones etc. pluged into the mains even after they are charged, remember that you are wasting current. Unplug devices that are not being used. Also, make use of switchable power bars with multiple sockets. This way, by siwtching off the power bar, you can cut the power supply to all the appliances in one go. Thus, phantom load can then be minimized. You may not realize this but over a year, this phantom load can add up and lead to very high electricity bills. This is the first money saving idea you need to remember.

Next comes conservation of energy. Run Dishwashers and Washing Machiens on full load. If you are not running these appliances on full load, you are wasting water and electricity, which in turn means money. Your appliances can't find out the amount of load they have and so, they use almost the same amount of water and electricity, no matter what the load. If you want to reduce your bills, conservation of electrical energy is a must.

See to it that the thermostat of your Heater/AC is fixed, so that you don't overheat/overcool your room. Also, during winter set the temperature a few degrees lower than you would. Similarly in summer, set the temperature a few degrees higher than you normally would. Even a few degrees change in the thermostat setting, will have a large positive impact on your electricity bills. This is because, the thermostat is meant to help in the conservation of electrical energy. A simple money saving idea, right?

Buying online is always a good idea. It could be things in bulk or new items, you will always save money. While buying online, check sites like eBay for ongoing auctions. You can also check out craigslist to find expensive objects at half the rates. The advantage of buying online is that you get to compare various products and their prices, sitting at home. Yet another simple money saving idea that can help you save money, in almost anything you purchase. If you need books, try to buy second hand books online. This way, you can save money, and it may also benefit you. This is because, previous owners might have made helpful notes in those text books!

While shopping, try to go to places that have discounts. But just because a place has discounts, don't buy things. Go shopping with a list and stick to it. This is yet, another money saving idea that can help a whole lot. Just don't get distracted and stick to the plan.

If you have teenagers at home, you know how their phone bills can sky-rocket. The best way to deal with this is asking the child to take responsibility. Go in for a prepaid phone connection. If your child is running short of minutes, ask him/her to pay for the extra minutes out of thier own pocket money.
