I Have to Stop Worrying!

Telling someone to stop worrying just doesn't work. I must be the world's worst worrier and I have come up with a few tricks of my own to stop. I hope that they can help someone out there. What a way to waste a life! And for nothing!

As I mentioned above... I worry about anything and everything. It's a really bad habit that I'm trying to bread because I realize just what a waste of time it is. You are never going to get that time back! So, if you are a chronic worrier, I hope that these little tricks can help you too. :)

1. JIGSAW PUZZLE... this is incredibly relaxing and the quickest way to stop yourself from worrying and the more puzzle pieces the better. One word of advice... choose a spot where the puzzle can be left. That means that you can visit the puzzle any time you need to get away from your worries.

2. Doodle... a pad of blank paper and some markers, pencil crayons... or even crayons is all it takes to take your mind somewhere else. Why teachers didn't teach the art of doodling is beyond me.

3. Color... Have you noticed that art seems to be playing a major part in my ways to manage the whole worry thing? And my next suggestion is a mandala. I was browsing an art store a few weeks ago and found a book full of them. Think of them as a something to color for adults. I guess you have to see one to understand. Google the the word "mandalas and take a look.

4. Exercise... This is supposed to work, but I don't think it does for me. It's just plain hard work. What I do find helpful is long walks. Working out for thirty minutes just bores me silly. It's funny, because my daughter loves the experience and can't understand why it doesn't work for me.

5. Bake something or at least thumb through a cookbook. Lots of times when I'm in a miserable mood, I will head down to the kitchen and bake a batch of cookies. For some reason doing something away from my normal routine, seems to give me something else to think about.

6. Word search. Here is another really easy way to take your mind off whatever it is that has been bothering you. I read somewhere that you can't think about two different things at the same time. I came up with this when a trip to the dentist was bothering me. Whoever came up with that was right. You CAN'T think of two things at the same time.

7. Foot bath and some Lavender... I got a foot bath for Christmas one year and the hot swirling water really does help. Add a lavender candle to the mix and you will find yourself relaxing even more.

8. Read... I usually pick up a good book about once a week so that I have a shelf full of books to choose from. When I'm done, I pass them along to a friend. There's nothing like leaving your world behind and living in someone elses. :)

my problem is not so much worrying but thinking too much about things - like these suggestions, positive action rather than sitting around and dwelling on things!
