How to Respect The People You Love
Respect is something everyone should learn in order to be successful. Showing someone respect can make all the difference in the world.
STEP 1: When you are proven wrong about something or make a mistake go ahead and give an honest, sincere apology to the person you had the discussion with. This will show them that you realized you were wrong and you weren’t afraid to admit it or apologize. Not only will this show that you respect them, but it will also give them a higher respect for you as well.
STEP 2: Give out genuine compliments when you feel they’re well-deserved. Letting someone know how much you appreciate them can show them how much you respect and love them. And, of course, it’ll bring a smile to their face too!
STEP 3: Actively listen and respect their opinions. Don’t cut in or interrupt even if you want to correct them on some point. It’s best to just listen and let them finish their thought. And really think about it... do you honestly think the world is going to fall apart if you don’t “correct” them or get your own point across? No, silly!
STEP 4: Ask them how they’re doing and wait to hear the response. Just showing someone you care about their feelings and how they’re doing will show them that you respect them.
STEP 5: Be polite. Hold the door open for them and let them be the first ones to enter. Say “please” and “thank you” and “yes, ma’am” or “yes, sir’.” Taking the time to add those kind of words to your vocabulary when speaking with them shows how much you’re willing to show them respect by taking the time to say those few, but meaningful words.
STEP 6: Try to be positive for them. When they’re down don’t add to the disappointment. Instead give them something to feel positive about. If you think hard enough you can usually come up with something to help them feel positive about a bad situation. Help them see how blessed they are and how this situation is just a small speed bump.
STEP 7: If they have rules or want something a particular way, respect that and follow them. Take the time to memorize those rules and not break them.
STEP 8: Be reliable and keep your promises. Don’t say you’ll do something and then bail out at the last second. Showing respect for someone is also about realizing that their time is valuable too, and you shouldn't do anything that would cause them to waste any of it for unnecessary reasons.
