I recycle Happy Meal Watches to Make jewelry style watch out of a slice of bread, nail polish, and a paper clip!

Recycle an inexpensive digital watch. This one is from a Happy Meal!

You probably have lots of those inexpensive little plastic digital watches lying around. Mine was a Barbie watch from a McDonald's Happy Meal.

You can recycle them with the other supplies, and make a cute, unique wristwatch. This would be a great craft for young girls or teens. You can make a wristwatch or a necklace watch.

 Instructions

  Things You'll Need:

  • Digital watch
  • Slice of White bread
  • nail polish or paint
  • Alene's Tacky glue in the gold bottle
  • two small paper clips
  • beads or ribbon for band or necklace.
  1. Step 1 Recycle an inexpensive digital watch; mine was a Happy Meal Toy!

    Step 2

  2. Cut off the wrist band.

Cut the band off the watch, as close to edge as possible.

  3. Step 3 Mix Alene's Tacky glue and bread.

Tear Bread into small pieces in a disposable plastic cup. Add One Tablespoon of Alene's Tacky Glue in the Gold bottle. Mix With a popsicle stick or plastic spoon. It will be a big mess.

  4. Step 4 Mix in a Ziplock Bag.

Scoop out the Mess and put it in a Ziplock bag. Continue to mix. You will need to leave an opening in the bag while mixing.

  5. Step 5 Don't answer your phone while you are doing this step.

Next comes the wierd part. You get your hands in it like Play-dough. It is really messy at first, amd as you form a ball, it gets cleaner. Just don't answer your cell phone if it rings!

  6. Step 6 Dough-wrapped watch.

With around 1/2 or less of the dough, make a circle shape. Place the watch in the center, bringing the dough up to cover the edges of the watch. If you think you may have the need to reset the watch, you may want to leave the little buttons or holes out so you can reach them.
Be careful not to use too much dough, or you will have a very heavy watch.

  7. Step 7 Illustration 1

Embed one or two paper clips for hooks. If you are doing a necklace watch, you don't need but one. See Illustration 1.

  8. Step 8 Allow to dry.

    Allow to dry, turning frequently.

  9. Step 9 Paint with nail polish.

Paint with nail polish or paint, and allow to dry.

  10. Step 10 Illustration 2

You can use whatever you want for your band or necklace. Ribbon would work, or beads, like I used. I threaded a stretchable cord through one loop, and beaded both strands. See Illustrationn 2. After desired length was reached, I tied it to the other side tightly.

  11. Step 11 Tie beads strands to other side of watch.

After desired length was reached, I tied it to the other side tightly.

If you want to save time, you can thread onto a necklace or bracelet.

  • May have a strong nail polish smell.
  • Be careful of the weight of the watch.
