For many centuries now and in all different religions, meditation has been widely used. A practitioner may choose to focus all his attention on a scripture, a vision, mantra, or his/ her breathing. The aim of meditating is to clear your mind of all outside thoughts. This can be achieved through different kinds of meditation techniques which all have the same goal of intensifying your object of comtemplation. This will give rise to being more aware and awakened.

Some meditation techniques that used by psychotherapists, holistic healers psychologists and sports physicians are guided imagery and visualization. These are effective in combating stress, easing illness, increasing mental amd physical performance and lessening anxiety and depression.

The aim of meditation over all is to have a focus of one's personal awareness into this present moment. The goal is to make the mind free of all concerns, past and present. It is essential that the meditator creates a private personal space where he cannot be interrupted. Try turning off your phone, locking the door, or other things to make sure that there will be no distractions as you conduct your own meditation techniques

One way of relaxing the mind and body is through a walking meditation. In this way, you can do this by walking very slow outside or inside a room while putting all your concentration on your breathing and your feet movements. Some meditation techniques also include flame meditation, breathing meditation and transcendental meditation.

Transcendental meditation is a meditation technique which involves invoking a mantra. This is a phrase, word  or syllable that one repeats aloud or silently over quite a short time. In this way, the mind is free from all internal dialogue which is one of the reasons why we subconsciously  have tension inside our body.

Another meditation technique is flame meditation. To do this, you light one candle in a dark room and watch the flame burn on for some minutes. At this time, try to avoid thinking about other things besides just the flame. After a few moments, blow out the candle and then keep your eyes closed. Imagine the flame the way it appeared and do this for quite a long time. If you practice this kind of meditation technique for a long time, then you will be able to create the flame visually in your head for a longer period.

Guided imagery and visualization are simple yet also very effective meditation techniques. This allows you to access the connection between body and mind. In visualization, this involves your brain trying to relive a tranquil moment in your life when you felt happy, invincible and alife. As you try to replay what you felt during this experience, your mind gives off positivity which is also good for the body.

Guided imagery is a little like visualization, but this aims to achieve a deep state of relaxation through meditation techniques like breathing. A trained therapist is normally needed, and the patient envisions a pleasant surrounding.
