Home Alone

Home Alone, was a classic hit comedy film that was first released in 1991. Even in my adulthood, I am more than happy to watch the film again, and when I was a kid I use to remember watching this film a hundred times during the Christmas holidays and summer holidays. It was such a feel good family fun film; it was the sort of film that even if you’ve watched it once you would never gets bored watching it over and over again.Plot:

The film opens with the entire McCallister family packing for their Christmas vacation to France. The family is exceptionally big, some 30 plus including adults. Kevin McCallister the youngest in the family needs help packing his luggage, the older kids simply don’t have the time or the patience to help him, he feels left out and unwanted, just like most teenagers. A patrol police man Harry played by Joe Pesci, comes ask the family that they take the appropriate precautions as they don’t want to get robbed.
The pizza man finally arrives, and the family starts to eat, before the get an early night. Kevin who loves cheese and tomato pizza is looking for his pizza, [removed][removed] [removed][removed] however his older brother Buzz eats the last slice deliberately knowing the Kevin wants it. Kevin vents his anger out on Buzz by pushing him, in turn Buzz land on the table and causes a big mess. As punishment Kevin is sent upstairs to the lost to sleep by his mother, Kevin is upset and angry and says he wishes he lived alone. Here comes the night, everyone sleeping, a storm brews outside and the power cables outside are broken, causing the alarms the family had set to break. The morning arrives and the family has realized they have overslept, rushing they get ready quickly and head for the airport, arriving just in time to catch the plane, there’s just one problem they’ve forgotten Kevin.
Kevin realizes he is home alone, just like he had wished to his mother, and starts partying like a 8 years kid would. However, he soon realizes that Harry, the cop is really a crook who along with Marv break into peoples houses whilst they are on holiday. Will the family be able to get back to save Kevin, will the crooks succeed in breaking into the house or will Kevin have a trap waiting for the crooks.

Kevin McCallister: Kevin is played by Macaulay Culkin, who is one of the most famous childhood starts of that generation. He may have been type casted in this role, but for me, he was born to play Kevin. For an eight year old kid who’s left home alone, Kevin enjoys his life without the parents, he does the things he could never do, eat loads of ice cream, watch television till late and so much more. However, whilst alone, he also feels scared, there are a lot of things kids that age are scared of, things in the basement, and mainly the old creepy guy that lives next door, whom his brother has been spreading rumors that he killed people. Kevin’s character is brilliant; he’s smart, edgy and just an all-round menace.

Daniel Stern as Marv Merchants: Marv is the other half of the criminal duo, and by far the funnier of the two, were as Harry is the serious and slightly intelligent one, Marv is plane and simply the stupid one, there always has to be one.

I loved Home Alone, its one of those classic films that will always stick with you, it had a continuous theme of comedy throughout the film, which made is pleasant to watch. The characters were brilliant, and the plot was even funnier. Only in America can a family leave their son at home by accident whilst they are half way round the world. For me the best bits are when Kevin plans his plot to out whit the robbers, he comes up with a brilliant master plan, and watching it unravel is just wonderful.
What makes this a good film for me was that the plot was simple, yet the comedy made the film so much more attractive, and at the time the film came out I was also a kid, and just like how Kevin was left Home Alone, I always imagined myself being left home alone.
Overall a great family fun filled action comedy; it leaves the audience laughing even after they have left the cinema.
