Ways to protect yourself from Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is not easily prevented, especially, if you are not familiar with the symptoms.

Have breast screening, cancers detected on screening usually respond, better to treatment.  If you think you have a family history, check with your family doctor.

Eat whole grains, this can help control levels of cancer-promoting hormones in the body, and, will boost your intake cancer-beating nutrients like selenium and vitamin E.  Choice of whole grains should be,   granary bread, high fibre and bran-based creals, and, brown pasta or rice.

Avoid saturated, not all fats are bad for us, though, oily fish, avocado, and rapeseed, walnut and olive oils are part of a healthy anti-cancer diet.  Cut back on the booze, if you have a small drink, every day, your risk increase for having breast cancer.   Avoid drinking every night, make alcohol a treat not a habit.

Most breast cancers are linked to oestrogen, taking combined hormone replacement therapy, for more than two years, can increase your risk of breast cancer.  Try other ways of controlling menopausal symptoms.   The good news is that the risk of breast cancer goes down within five years of low intake of oestrogen.

Get active, exercise improves the hormone balance in the body, which lowers levels of some cancer-causing hormones.  Watch your weight, putting on weight in adult life increase your risk too.  Maintain your weight to a specific height.  Go low fat, Dairy products are rich in calcium, and often vitamin D, which can protect us from cancer.  low fat diary like, cottage cheese, skimmed milk, or low fat yoghurt.

Eat different coloured fruit to prevent you from breast cancer.  They contain plant chemicals that can act as antioxidants and have potential  anti-cancer properties.
