Video Game Timeline-showing the growth in the gaming arena over the years

The 1950s & 60s:

                           The first ever video game was a software called OXO(a version of noughts and crosses) which was created in 1952;not with the on state a thesis on "human-computer interaction". The first actual video game meant for entertainment was a rudimentary one called Tennis for Two,made on an oscilloscope. However,what is considered the first widely available game was Space war created in 1961.

The 1970s:

                           1972 saw the birth of Atari,the first company to commercially sell video games,starting with Pong,which began the whole arcade craze. The same year also saw the first home video game console,the magnavox Odyssey,followed by the ultra-successful Atari 2600 in 1977.

The 1980s:

                           The early 80s saw the legendary game PAC-Man being released. However this decade can be called the Nintendo Era. Nintendo released its first console,bundled with Super Mario Bros. which was a blockbuster success. In 1989,they released Game Boy,the first handheld console; while Sega released the 16-bit Sega Genesis.

The 1990s:

                           This period saw the release of Mortal Kombat and Sega's flagship character Sonic the Hedgehog, while Mario continued to spawn successful sequels. The 32-bit era was here,but Sony's PlayStation was the only success, with Sega and Nintendo bringing out failed models.

The 2000s:

                           Nintendo game Cube,Sony's PlayStation 2 and debutant Microsoft's Xbox from the trio with cutting edge technology in video gaming today, with Sega dropping out of the race. Portability being the watchword, Nokia brought out the NGage cell phone, while Sony unveiled the PlayStation Portable in 2004.Sony and Nokia are the brands that are sprouting high in this era....
