Bonjela teething gel can help to reduce the discomfort associated with teething in babies.

Teething can be an ordeal for babies and parents.  It can be a painful process, and babies can be left unhappy and in pain as their new teeth push their way up.  If you have a teething baby, you want to be able to help them feel better.  Bonjela makes a teething gel that I have used on my children.

Bonjela teething gel is suitable from use from two months of age.  Although a few babies do begin teething earlier, there are no other products available from an earlier age, and most babies will not need it until several months later.  It is meant for use on teething babies, and ingredients include Lidocaine hydrochloride, which is numbing.

So does Bonjela help?

In a nutshell, yes.  Bonjela Teething Gel really does seem to ease the discomfort associated with teething.  It can help fretful babies to calm down and feel better.  If your baby is seriously teething, rubbing some Bonjela on their gums will help them to feel better.  Compared to other teething gels, the results seem to last longer as well.  Calgel, for example, is the teething gel made by Calpol.  Although it offers quick relief, it seems to wear off after a very short period.

Also, although I use Sugar Free Bonjela, my kids still seemed to like the way that it tasted, and they never objected to having it rubbed on their gums.  In fact, you will probably find that your baby will start looking for the tube of teething gel because she wants you to use it!

My biggest complaint about Bonjela teething gel is that it says you have to wait three hours between applications, and although it does last longer than many other brands, the effects definitely don’t last three hours.  I find that it’s most helpful before naptime or bedtime.  If teething pains are making it difficult for your baby to settle, then teething gel can help to sooth them and ease their discomfort.  They are then able to calm down, and are fast asleep before the gel wears off.  Hopefully they’ll sleep at least three hours before waking again, and then you can re-apply if necessary.  During the day it provides a good distraction, but will wear off more quickly—especially if they are eating, drinking, and putting things in their mouth.

A 15g tube of Bonjela teething gel costs £2.44 at Boots, or £2.84 at Asda.  It is available at most supermarkets and chemists.
