Deciding on Gaming Laptops

Gaming Laptops are more portable, but with portability comes less power. However, you may be surprised at just how powerful these gaming monsters really are. They come with more fans, dual core processors and components that may even be faster than your desktop. Although, with all these powerful components, don't expect it to last long on your lithium ion battery. When you order gaming laptops online, go for a system builder which allows you to customize your gaming laptop components by a series of drop down menus. A system builder gaming laptop could allow you to choose less memory then upgrade later if your trying to make the initial cost of the gaming laptop lower.

Gaming Laptop LCD

Gaming Laptops are bulky often with full sized keyboards and the components within. Therefore the screensize will also be large to remain proportional with the rest of the laptop. Besides screensize, decide what resolution you want your monitor in. Native resolution especially since this is what your LCD will display best. Too low of a resolution and you won't be able to fit much on the screen if anything, and too high and objects onscreen will appear small. I prefer a WUXGA at 1920x1200 although many complain its too hard on the eyes.

GPU on your Gaming Laptop
The graphics processing unit or GPU on your gaming laptop is one of the most vital components to gaming laptops. Without a great GPU, the graphics will look poor and you wont be able to play games without the game itself lagging severely. Gaming laptops need GPUs made by reputable companies like NVIDIA. More than one Graphics card can be hooked up using SLI technology. And one more thing to note is that there should be plenty of RAM on the graphics card itself. Sharing RAM with the gaming laptops CPU is a big no no.
Gaming RAM
RAM is becoming cheaper and more powerful than ever before. DDR3 is now out making DDR2 and the original DDR obsolete. Computers with little RAM have to store stuff that normally would be in the RAM into the paging file which is located on the hard drive. But reading the paging file on the hard drive is slower to access than it would be on a RAM chip. Solid state hard drives have flash memory chips on them which are fast accessing, however still opt in for high amounts of RAM. More than 2GB should be sufficient.

Hard Drives
Gaming Hard Drives are now available in the form of solid state drives. Solid state means no moving parts. On top of that, they are faster than the fastest not so solid state drive. However, do expect to pay more for these solid state drives as they are way more expensive. Regular hard drives come with spindle speeds at 5400RPM, 7200RPM, and 10,000RPM. 7200RPM is average, lower than that and its below average unless its a hard drive for a small portable device which would not be a gaming laptop. If you cant' afford a solid state drive for your gaming laptop, go for a 10,000RPM drive with sufficient capacity.
