With so many people coming to know about the existence and realizing the benefits of antioxidants there is a major rush to pop the right pills. The truth is that antioxidants have always been present in our diets. What we eat and drink can help us gain a lot in terms of health for our bodies.

Few people get more antioxidants in their systems by doing nothing more than drinking some cups of black tea in the day. Yes, plain black tea, it needn’t be green tea either, although green tea has added benefits. Here we will concentrate on black tea.

Why is black tea good for you?

It has less caffeine in it when compared to coffee. Yes I know its easier to pick up a cup of coffee from Starbucks, but the home brewed black tea will accrue far more health benefits for you. It has a proven ability to expand blood vessels in people who drink four cups in a day. This is a major boon to anyone with a coronary heart disease. As it will enable you to reduce the blood thinning medication that you need to consume. Black tea also helps reduce cholesterol in the body. This has been proved in study after study using both black and green tea.

You do need to consume at least four cups in a day, on a regular basis over a minimum period of time of a month for these health benefits to actually begin to take effect. There is also the health benefit of preventing caries in the teeth. Thereby reducing the number of cavities you have and the trips to the dentist. Considering that the dentist is never a hot favorite for anyone it is an added advantage. If you have a cold and cough black tea can help. When you boil the black tea with the addition of holy basil leaves and some pepper corns, it can actually help you get rid of the fever and the stuffy nose.

It is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The plain black tea is actually richer in health nutrients than the regular tea in which you add milk and sugar. If you drink 650 ml of tea in a day you have managed to consume 16% of your calcium, 10% of zinc, 10% of folic acid, 9% of Vitamin B1, 25% of vitamin B2, and 6% of vitamin B6 of your daily dietary needs. This is calculated on an adult of more than 20 years of age and with ideal body weight . So you need to get those four cups of black tea into your system every day.

How does one brew black tea?

It truly is a healthy drink to switch to. It does take some time to adjust to the taste of black tea without milk and sugar. The trick is in brewing the tea correct. If you use just enough tea leaves, you will not find the brew too strong or bitter. This will take some practice as you find the ideal taste for yourself. Also depending on the type of tea you use to make the brew, the strength of the brew will differ. The best way to brew black tea is in a teapot. Add the hot water, then the tea leaves and leave it to brew.

Since you add no sugar or milk, the tea itself will have next to no calories. So you can drink as many cups as you like all through the day. So now you know why dieters tend to guzzle it. The warm beverage keeps you feeling full, and at the same time adds no extra calories to your system.  All it takes is a matter of getting used to the new taste. If you feel that you can do without the milk, but still need to sweeten the tea, use honey. It is again a rich source of antioxidants. Although it will shoot up the calorie count of your tea, so try not to use too much honey if you are on a strict diet.

The advantages of a simple cup of black tea provide can be experienced at a fraction of the cost that antioxidant pills will cost you. So rather pouring over bottles of pills and wondering which one is best for you, take the healthier and natural option. Brew yourself a teapot of black tea each day and enjoy the heath fix that it gives your system at a most agreeable cost.
