Delicious Country Recipes for a Traditional Thanksgiving
Traditional Thanksgiving recipes from my family to yours.We celebrated every year with my mamma in her country home until her passing. The tradition is now celebrated at my moms house.
Thanksgiving dinners bring to mind many childhood memories, at our Mammas house in the country. The traditions remain as we became adults. Family traditions are handed down and taught from one generation to another. Each family has their own. It may be celebrated on different days or called different names. It still comes down to family and friends joining together for the day, for a shared feast of traditional foods.
We share our food and laughter with those who have none. We share stories and make new memories an friends. These Are traditional foods my family has fixed for years, by my grandparents, parents and now me.
Oyster Dressing
(1) Loaf bread
(2) Eggs
(1) Medium onion
(3) Stalks celery
(2) small cans of oysters
Salt and pepper
It is best to dry bread on tray, three or four days before use. Sauté onion and celery butter, until tender. Add all ingredients to bread and mix with broth till all crumbs are wet. Place all in buttered baking dish. Bake at 375 degrees for (1) hour
Cranberry Salad
(1) Orange
(1) Quart cranberries
(2) Packages lemon gelatin
(2) Cups hot water
(2) Cups sugar
(½) Cup chopped nuts
Peel oranges, grind rind and chop into pieces. Grind cranberries, dissolve gelatin in hot water. Add sugar (stir until dissolved) chill gelatin till slightly thick. Add cranberries, orange rind, nuts and orange. Place in 9x11 pan. Chill until firm.
Dumplings
(2) Cups flour(1) Teaspoon salt(1) Cup chicken broth
Mix dough to soften. If sticky add enough flour to roll out, and then cut in inch squares. Drop into boiling chicken broth. You can tell when their done by the color.
Noodles
(2) Cups flour
(4) Eggs
(1) Quart chicken broth (at least) Salt and pepper
to enlarge recipe add (1) cup more flour and extra egg and broth.
Mix eggs with flour to form dough. If not moist enough add very small amount of milk till dough sticks together. Roll out on well floured board. Almost thin as pie crust. Sprinkle flour over pastry and cut with noodle cutter. Drop into broth and cook on medium, for approximately 30 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
Corn Pudding
(2) Cans of cream corn
(1) Box jiffy corn muffin mix
(5) Eggs
(½) cup oil
(1) Teaspoon of garlic powder
Grated cheddar cheese
Mix all ingredients and bake at 325 degrees for (1) hour. Add cheese while hot
these recipes are tried and true favorites; each family brings their favorites to share, so the host isn't cooking all week long. The host has been my mother since my grandmothers passing. These are just a few favorites we share on one of our favorite holidays of the year.
