Some simple rules to win consistently in poker. You can use these rules to make profit in online games, your local card games or the casino. Just follow these simple rules and reminders and you will always end up in profit at the end of your poker career.

No-limit Texas hold'em is probably the most interesting, engaging, popular card game to master, and one of the most difficult. So before I must make it clear that reading this will not make you the best right away or even soon. But it will help you over the long run.

First a brief introduction on the basics of poker and poker rules:

Every player gets two starting cards. Before the players receive their 2 starting cards the player left to the dealer must post his/her's small blind and the person left to the small blind must pay the big blind (double of the small blind). After receiving the 2 starting cards (your poker hand), there is a round of betting. After every player who wishes to remain in the game for that hand pays an amount equal to the highest bet, the dealer reveals 3 cards from the deck on the table. These are community cards. Another round of betting ensues and a 4th card is revealed. Another round of betting occurs and a 5th card is revealed. Now there is a last round of betting, before everyone left in the game reveals their cards. The goal is to make the best five card hand that includes: your two starting cards and any of the 3 (out of 5) community cards.

The Poker Hand Raking is in the following order:

(1) Royal Flush - Straight flush from Ace to Ten
(2) Straight Flush - Any straight with all five cards of the same suit
(3) Four of a Kind - Any four cards of the same rank
(4) Full House - Three of a kind and a pair
(5) Flush - Any five cards of the same suit
(6) Straight - Any five consecutive cards regardless of their suit
(7) Three of a Kind - Any three cards of the same rank
(8) Two Pair - Any two cards of the same rank, along with two another cards of the same rank
(9) One Pair - Any two cards of the same rank
(10) High Card - Any five card hand that is not one of the above mentioned 'Hands'.

Now the tips:

(1) If you would like to win consistently (both in tournaments and cash games), make a habit to only play 25-30% of the hands.
(2) It is not considered to be cowardly to fold. Even if it is the last round (all five community cards are out), its only you and maybe one other player battling it out, you've already put in a lot of money in the pot. But if you know that this is not your hand and you will lose (maybe you were trying to bluff, whatever the reason for the feeling) FOLD. Just FOLD it!
(3) Know the table bet. Yes you are trying to make money, but know the table bet (the bet at which people fold).
(4) Remember, you will not win every hand you play!!! This is the most important tip you could get. Because some people will just get down by losing couple hands, especially if you lose a couple hands in a row. Don't be worried. You will win.

According to me, poker is a game of 70% skills and 30% luck. In Poker, you will win little, you will win big. But along with that you also lose little and you will lose big. If you stick to some simple rules you can maximize your profit with the 70% skills portion of the game. That is where you make and loose your money, not the 30% luck. Luck will come and go. But skills are forever.
