Making meatloaf is an easy, quick to make dish, and tastes absolutely delicious. It's one of America's favorites, and you can make it with a variety of many different ingredients.

Many people believe that meatloaf originated back in the 1930s during the depression, when families needed a way to stretch their food supply by adding stale breadcrumbs to their hamburger, almost to the point where there loaves would end up having more bread than meat in it.

Some believe the Italian immigrants populated it by trying to save time in making meatballs, decided to just make a loaf out of the hamburger instead.

But no matter what the reason is for how meatloaf originated, doesn't matter because it's still one of America's favorite dishes.

And with the way this economy is right now, it's the perfect dish, because it's easy to fix, inexpensive, and feeds several people. It's a perfect meal to fix if you have guests over to visit, or if you're entertaining a small party.

Here is what you need to get started:

  • 1 1/2 lbs hamburger
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup saltine crackers
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions

Oven - preheat 350 degrees

Crush your saltine crackers up until they are fine pieces. Do this until you have a full cup.

Mix hamburger, grounded saltine crackers, eggs, 1/2 can of your tomato soup, onions, salt and pepper, all into one large bowl.

After mixture is mixed, remove from bowl and place in a baking pan, and form into a loaf shape.

Bake in oven for 50 minutes, and then carefully pour the remainder of the 1/2 cup of tomato soup on top of the hamburger loaf.

Cook an additional 10 minutes, and remove from oven, and serve.

Yes, I agree, meatloaf is economical and easy to prepare, and I usually bake it for one hour and it’s done.
