Glass blowing

I got to go glass blowing in Lincoln city, Oregon. Here is my summary. Keep in mind that I wrote this that day.

Glassblowing is a really fun thing to do. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait till I pick up the final product. I highly recommend glassblowing to  anyone who wants to do glassblowing for the first time. The staff at the glass blowing place are very nice.

Ok, here’s how I got to be able to blow molten glass into a bubble. Well, last time we were here, we had stopped by and I really wanted to do that activity. So, my dad said that next time I could do that. Ok, this time I thankfully remembered that he had said that. So, he had to let me do the glass blowing thing. Right? Ok so this time I made a really cool glass float.

At first I was really nervous, but then I over came my fear and I had fun. The first step I took was to get a nice layer of molten glass to be nice and round by turning it on this really cool stick thing. Then I had to get the colors that I chose on the molten glass by letting the weight of the glass ball on the little glass shards that were on the table that was set out.

Then we went over to the work bench that had a lot of really cool tools for making glass floats and shaped the ball of glass even more. Then, I tweaked the colors to make swirls. Then, I shaped the ball one more time and blew in the air. The teacher (Adam) then cut off the float from the stick and added the bottom. He then put the float in a 900 degree kiln. It will wait there until tomorrow where I will pick it up.

I've always wanted to try glass blowing. As an art major in college, I experienced making a lot of different kinds of art: photography, sculpture, painting, computer art, ceramics, etc. But alas, no glass. Some day I'll get to try it.
