Defeating the bosses in Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
This is a summarized guide on defeating the bosses from Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. There are eight different bosses. Inside, there will be some tips and recommendations on what to use and what to have at that moment.
An old game of the past had been released on the GBA that used to be on the NES. It has been considered the black sheep of the Zelda games created by Nintendo in Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. It is quite honestly maybe one of the most underrated games. However, that will not be the focus. There is going to be a bit of a guide on defeating the bosses in the game. There are eight different bosses in the game and it will be time to take a look on how to defeat each of them.
The first boss of the game would be Horsehead. He is one that has a horse for a head and the guardian of the first palace. He has a club and can be dangerous if it connects directly. In regards to spells, it would be recommended to have both the shield and jump spells. Jump up to his head and attack him but also get out of the way and move to the left. Repeat the cycle until he has been defeated. How long it will take will depend upon the experience point’s factor and the attack level. Though optional, try to upgrade the heart and magic just by one.
Helmethead is the boss of the second palace and is virtually identical to Horsehead though a little bit trickier. First, knock the two helmets off his head and it will reveal his head. There are no major requirements in terms of magic items but do try to complete all the list of magic spells as that will be the common theme. This one will require some more dodging than before. Just up to the head and make sure to have a clear path and move back to the left a bit. Repeat it until you have successfully defeated him.
Ironknuckle is one that rides a blue horse. It is the blue one and those ones are starting to become common to fight. The blue ones shoot swords out and it has come down to strategy. You should by now have at least the downward thrust in order to get him off the horse. Hit him four times and the horse will go and it will be like battling a regular blue Ironknuckle. Avoid the swords that come along as best as possible and try to go with a direct attack avoiding the shield. Hit him where the shield isn’t protecting him and that should do the trick. It should be noted that this version will appear in the sixth palace a couple times so be sure to remember how to beat him the first time around and apply the same strategy.
Carock is one that would require the reflect spell. Be sure to have that and get the attacks to hit him directly. Block his attacks and it will go the opposite direction and attack if not too far away. Be sure to do that and watch out for his teleportation tactic because he could land near you. Be sure to have plenty of magic and it would be recommended to have a full amount of magic.
Gooma is one that could look easy but isn’t. You could consider using the shield magic but it isn’t necessary. One trick and it may not mean much would be the fire spell so that whenever Link uses the sword, fire comes out. Mostly, it is a strategy that would be aptly named hit and run. Watch out for the mace. Before going into battle, make sure to get your experience up at least up to level five on every item being from attacks, life, and magic. The higher they are, the better it is and would be easier to survive from in that respect.
Barba is the dragon that rises up in the fire pits to shoot fire balls. Be sure to have magic and use the jump spell. There are different ways to beat him but one technique could be used is the downward thrust attack. Jump up in the air and go to him and directly downward thrust the sword on his head attacking him. This move is to be in caution though because one mistake on calculating to the next platform could result in death and repeating the battle again. By this point, it would be recommended to acquire all heart and magic containers though not required.
Thunderbird is a mini-boss of sorts. It is recommended that prior to coming to The Great Palace that you have picked up every single item that could be picked up. Be sure to have the thunder spell and a full meter of magic. It would also be recommended though maybe not required to have every skill maxed out to its highest level. Use the Thunder spell once and it should be able to reveal his face. Then just attacking and dodging his attacks. Just keep hitting the face and eventually he will die. Funny note is that all the bosses except the last one drop a key but keys aren’t necessary in The Great Palace.
Dark Link is the final boss and it seems to be that of shadow boxing. Think of it either as Shadow Link or the evil from within because that is what it appears to be. Before even battling Thunderbird, let along Dark Link, it would be recommended to have all your skills maxed up. Depending upon how you did in the Thunderbird battle the first time around, it may be best to keep some magic so that you have enough for life energy. He is a tough one and it takes a specific pattern. Pay attention to where you are located and where he’s attacking. Maybe get into a corner and start attacking that way trying to keep up with him. Hit him constantly until he has been defeated.
Once that has been completed and you have the game done, then you get the ending. There is no extra mode but you can continue with a little Triforce. All that happens with experience points is that extra lives are given. It is the black sheep but these bosses can be challenging if not with the right equipment. That is all on this, there will be a guide on heart and magic containers.
