Groceries are costly, but when you consider how many drinks your family can go through in a week, it's amazing most of us are able to keep our households hydrated. I've come up with some ways to save money on beverages for my family that may help you to pinch a few pennies yourself.

Buy beverage mixes and combine them with water to save money on drinks. Beverages such as Gatorade, teas, and fruit juices can be purchased for cheaper if you buy the powdered brand and mix them with water. The reason most pre-made drinks are so expensive is because they are convenient. There is no mess or fuss when purchasing beverages by the bottle. Drink mixes are cheaper because you have to actually take the time to mix them with water. You can actually save up to a couple of dollars by purchasing powdered varieties of the bottled drinks you normally buy. You just have to decide what is more important..saving money or saving time? Mixing beverages at home really only takes a few more minutes of your time and can save you quite a bit in the long run.

Buy generic drinks to save money . If your family drinks a lot of pop, fruit juices, or water bottles, save money by purchasing the generic version of these beverages. Buying generic pop can save you over $3.00 a six pack compared to brand name versions such as Pepsi or Coke. You can even get generic fruit juices that will save you over $1.00 per bottle. Plus, generic beverages are really just as good or close to the brand name versions and your family will get used to the slight difference in taste after a week or so of drinking generic beverages. However, most generic versions of drinks taste exactly the same as the brand name beverage. Let your family know that you are switching to generic to save money. You can find just about any beverage you normally drink in a generic version. Most grocery stores or super centers, such as Wal-Mart, offer a generic brand of drinks to help consumers save money.

Purchase beverages at a cheaper store such as a Dollar Store or Save-A-Lot. Dollar stores actually carry many of the name brand drinks you'd buy at Wal-Mart, Tops, or Wegmans for a cheaper price. If you can get your favorite beverages for less money, why wouldn't you want to purchase them elsewhere? I purchase Gatorade for my son at a local Dollar Store and save $2.00 off the price of an 8 pack. That's a huge difference when you consider he goes through the Gatorade in a matter of days. Most Dollar Stores carry Pepsi and Coke products as well so you don't have to skimp on taste if you really feel there is a big difference between generic and brand name drinks. However, if you choose a discount grocery store such as Save-A-Lot, they do not usually carry many brand name versions of beverages, but you can get generic brands super cheap.

Purchase drinks in bulk to save money on beverages for your household. Buying beverages at a Sam's Club or B.J's. Wholesale can save you more money in the long run. However, you'll need to be prepared to pay a bigger amount up front since most items at these wholesale stores come by the case or larger. That is how the wholesale stores are able to offer items cheaper. Just think of how much money you can save if you purchase drinks in bulk. Not only will beverages last longer in your household and not have to bought as often, but you'll pay a cheaper price overall per individual item since you are purchasing a larger amount. Say for instance, a 12 pack of Pepsi normally costs $4.99 at Wal-Mart that you can probably buy for $6.99 a case at B.J.'s Wholesale or Sam's Club. Look around for the best deals at these wholesale stores and you will find yourself saving a lot of money on beverages for your family.
