Building passive income online is not a get rich quick scheme as some would have you believe. It takes work, but if you are willing to put in an honest effort up front, and a modest effort to maintain your earnings, you can make money online every month without doing a thing!

We all want to work as little as possible, while making the most money, so that we can have time to enjoy our lives. A very good way to do this is to build up a source of passive income.

These 4 sites offer passive income monthly for the content you submit to their site.

Suite101

Suite101 has been around for 13 years, and is one of the most respected sites online. It's not a place for beginners. If you are not good, you are not even accepted to write there. Their editorial guidelines are strict, but they get major search engine traffic, so passive income earnings are well worth the time and effort. If you are accepted at Suite101, you will have to write a minimum number of articles ever 90 days, usually 10. With very little promotion, I earn an average of $1 per article per month there, so the more you write, the more you earn.

The most frustrating thing about Suite101 is that each channel editor has their own requirements, and some can be very nitpicky, while others are more lenient. You will quickly learn which channels you want to write for and those where it's not worth the time and effort to go through the editorial nightmares. Still, I consider Suite 101 to be one of the very best sites to earn passive income online.

Examiner

Examiner is an online newspaper that lets you earn passive income by writing for local or national areas, and confines your writing to certain topics. You can apply for one of the available topics, or suggest a topic of your own. For example, I write out of the Miami area, but my title is South Florida Gardening Examiner. I suggested this instead of Miami Gardening Examiner, because I thought it would get more traffic, and they agreed.

If you prove yourself on a local site, they will be more likely to give you a national slot. I recently snagged the National Urban Agriculture slot because my editor was happy with my work on my current assignment.

Examiner pays per 1000 page views, and they pay well. By submitting regulary and with proper promotion, you can make some really decent passive income writing for Examiner. As well, they are currently pay $50 for every Examiner who signs up under your name, so if you would be so kind as to sign up under me (Deborah Aldridge), I would be very appreciative.

Bukisa

Bukisa is rather new, but already, it is getting a good reputation for good passive income rates and decent page views. Also, you can make money by inviting people to join Bukisa, where you will earn from their page views, and their first tier of friends page views.

Bukisa allows reprints of articles that are elsewhere online, so is a good place to put articles that aren't earning well on other sites, like those non-earning eHow articles I was talking about above.

Associated Content

I put AC last, because I'm not a big fan, but it is a place where you can earn passive income. There are two basic ways to earn on Associated Content; upfront payments and page view revenue. Upfront payments are usually pretty low, from $1 to $6. How much you make on page views depends on how many page views you have. They have a "clout" system, and the higher your clout, the more you make per 1,000 page views. While they don't pay as well as some sites for traffic, the more you write, the more you can earn.

Once you are paid an upfront payment for your article, you are not allowed to remove it from the site, although you do retain the right to sell it for second rights elsewhere, or to post it on another site. I was not happy with my income from my gardening articles on AC, so I am putting most of those articles up on Examiner and doing much better on income, while still earning whatever small amount I get from AC every month.

The great thing about AC performance payments is that you only have to make $2.50 a month to get paid. I usually make under $10 a month now, because I have stopped writing for them, but I always have the option to write more and earn more.

These five sites can get you started on the road to earning passive income online. Once you get comfortable with these sites, you can branch out into other area
