From frugal to fancy, there are many fun ways to learn a new language!

With all the resources out there, is there really a reason to pay for an expensive class or buy a language program? Not really. However, if you learn better by homework, listening to a teacher, and lesson plans, these tips might not help.  But if you are a self learner, these tips are going to help you. Maybe you just need an to enhance what you’ve already learned.  Either way, check them out!

Byki.com – This website supplies free downloads on several languages. The basic download is just enough to get you there and back but you can also download new lists too.

Bbc.uk.com/languages– Is another great website that takes you through a 12 week program on several languages. If you don’t want to take the free program, you can just play on the website and learn phrases and cultural information.

Check with your local library for CD’s, DVD’s or tapes on languages. They will also have movies on several countries and you can learn about the culture and snag a few phrases.

Listen and learn by singing to music. You can get an English translation to follow along with. Singing is a catchy way to remember anything. Why do you think they use music in commercials?

Watch movies with subtitles. You can put on a DVD in a different language and learn from a movie you know well. Not all movies can be watched with foreign sub-titles so look on the back.

Host a foreign exchange student. Not only can you learn a lot about a new culture, but you can learn how to speak like them too.

Find friends that want to learn the same language(s).  Host weekly get-to-gethers where you and your friends can practice speaking, share food, and other cultural information.
